• Hiccups: It's all in your head.

So, I just had the most annoying nuisances that we have in our lives. Hiccups. We all have different ways for getting rid of this. Drinking lots of water, holding your breath or getting randomly scared. I had the hiccups which annoyed me for about 2 hours today before I remembered something my teacher told me. She said that if you or someone else told you that you have the hiccups. It will magically stop. Apparently, she said that hiccups was all in our heads. I was skeptical at first on what she said. I tried it out and told myself "I have the hiccups" then... it stopped! So, try this next time you have the hiccups. How do you handle hiccups?
try next time quicker instead of 2 hours + its a little bit unreliable.
Upside-down water drinking.
I exhale all the air out of my lungs as I can, then I drink a glass of water.
I drink water upside down.
I read on WebMD a couple years back that if you have the hiccups, you can have someone stick a finger in your butt and it actually will cure you of hiccups as well. I'm not quick to try that one out though, so I'll use your method instead.
Hold my breath. It works without fail. I wonder if you can analyze someone's psyche judging on the way they solve their hiccups...
Actually. That's bullshit. Hiccoughs are caused by your breathing pattern being out of sync. Getting scared, drinking water, deep breathing, all regulate this, which causes your hiccoughs to go away. You saying I have hiccoughs.. had nothing to with the words, you could have said I go on Facepunch.. and I bet it would have stopped because you were saying something slowly and your breathing was allowed to slow down and come back to normal.
You know if you lick the top of your mouth side to side, it cures hiccups?

I basically just told myself "I have the hiccups" and it went away. And its not just saying words. My teacher said if your brain acknowledges that you have the hiccups it will stop and regulate your breathing again.
drink from a glass of water backwards, its the only thing that actually does something.
Usually running to the kitchen and drinking OJ out of the gallon, slowly, cures it. Why dumb? It always works for me. Plain water rarely works with me.

I doubt it will.
I just keep trying to hiccough again and I never do.
Drink a bit of lemon juice. I swear it gets rid of hiccups instantly.
I can just stop hiccuping. It's easy.

I take one big gulp of water, and swallow as much as you can in one. That stops it for me.
too bad you can't stop heartburn that easily, damn soda
So, I just had the most annoying nuisances that we have in our lives. Hiccups.
Also if this is the one of biggest nuisances in your life I seriously envy you.
Fucking diaphragmatic irritations.
Next time try it immediately after your first hic and see if it works. I doubt it will.
Actually, my teacher demonstrated how it worked one time. It was funny cause she told the person just hiccuping in the middle of class and my teacher told her to tell himself to say that he had the hiccups and then it stopped.
95% of the times for me it helps to just drink some water. The other 5% it usually goes away pretty fast.
Deep breathing fixes it for me. It balances out the C02 in your lungs. Or something like that.
Hold your breath while drinking upside-down as someone scares you.
I hear belching works.
Take a deep breath in, as deep as you can go, and suck in as much air as possible. Hold it for 30 seconds, and then slowly exhale. After this, take slow, controlled, shallow breaths for 2 - 3 minutes. This calms the diaphragm.
There was a documentary on BBC Two recently about a dude who had permanent hiccups. He had had them for two years or so. Eventually he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and had to have it removed.
