I want to buy either a tablet pc such as an ipad or other tablet pc or maybe a laptop
my use for it will be browsing out and about, music, video streaming, app/game play occasionally.
my problem is, i cant decide what to get!
can anybody recommend anything in particular
thanks
surface tablet by microsoft maybe?
if you like windows 8
Surface would be a nice choice, yeah. However it's a bit lacking on the game front.
Its extremely lacking on every front, it has barely any software at all.
the surface looks pretty good though, i think the pro may be worth waiting for.
The surface is overpriced. It has an SoC that has been known to be weak compared to competing ones, a mediocre display, and like Amiga OS said, it has very little software support. Oh and the 32GB model has 16GB usable.

Is this the case for the pro version coming out? also ipads dont run flash do they? i like my flash games XD also it has a usb 3.0 port that will work with pretty much any device ( i.e external hardrives e.c.t )
No the pro version doesn't suffer from that. But at how expensive it'll be I'd just get a nice Ultrabook.
I've got a Asus Windows RT tablet, if you have any specific questions go ahead and ask me.
It does sound like you want an ultrabook though. Don't waste your time with the Surface Pro.

Bad. Bad hardware, will never get updates.
ok how about the Asus Transformer TF700?
ok how about the Asus Transformer Pad TF300?
1920x1200?
Higher than your average 22in 1080p display.

Except the TF300 is 1280x800.
I'd never buy an Android tablet. Android tablets simply don't run as well as Windows 8 tablets or iPads. Even with Jellybean on the Nexus 7 it's blatantly apparent how much more responsive and fluid something like an iPad or a Surface is when you look at them side by side. Plus the Android market is filled with phone apps that just scale up to a 7 or 10 inch display.

Even worse performance wise. Tegra 3 has a limited memory bandwidth compared to competing quad core A9 SoCs. It runs the UI worse at 1920x1200 compared to 1280x800.
im as lost as i was at the beginning haha, im thinking its going to have to play safe and go ipad?
i do really like the idea of the windows tablet although i admit the lack in apps
The Vivo Tab with keyboard dock isn't too expensive comparatively, and with the dock it's just like a netbook (e.g. you'll feel right at home browsing.) The amount of games on Windows RT is terrible though, but that will be rectified with time, and a few heavy hitters like Hulu and Netflix already have apps.
The iPad cannot run Flash, however, there are browsers on the App Store which allow you to play flash content (not perfect, better for point and click games) but most popular flash games are on the App Store
Also Android tablets don't support flash officially either. You have to sideload the .APK and there's no guarantee it'll work with future releases, not that'd you'd ever get updated to those future releases with an Android tablet.
If it's a tablet you're after get an iPad. I don't care what people on here think but it's honestly the only tablet out there that's worth getting over a laptop.

Ummm my Asus Transformer started on Honeycomb and has an official Jellybean release
Please be informed before you post, thanks

Nexus 10?
Nexus 10?
This too I guess.
Basically what I meant was don't go looking for any of them that aren't well known like a few people seem to be going towards in this thread, because they're all a load of shit.

I'm actually quite informed. Check my post history. Hmm looks like you're quite uninformed too, pot calling the kettle black? Is your tablet on 4.2? Nope. In fact around half of the owners of the original transformer have crippled devices after the update to 4.x, tons of complaints on XDA. Owners of Samsung branded tablets? Ice Cream Sandwich as best for most of them, and some like the 10.1V are forever on Honeycomb. Your one tablet does not represent the entire Android tablet ecosystem, no matter how much you want it to. Be informed before you post?

Will always run pretty meh in 2D and 3D applications, much more so than the old third gen iPad. The Mali-T604 should be driving a 1280x800 display, not a 2560x1600 one.
[editline]27th November 2012[/editline]
Oh uh which Transformer do you have? The TF101 and TF201 are stuck on ICS from what I can find. And the update for the TF101 has that risk of crippling the device. I'd imagine it's the TF300T or TF700T right?
[editline]27th November 2012[/editline]
Okie so the TF201 is indeed 4.1.1, so it's just the original that's on ICS, probably due to the previous update problems.

TF201 does have Jelly Bean but the tf201,300 and 700 are just god awful tablets.
No idea. What does the Infinity bring over the TF300? An off-looking plastic part and a larger screen that sucks performance?
Also, Asus Screen Lift.
[editline]27th November 2012[/editline]
I mean there are also a few inexcusable problems with my Vivo Tab, but nothing serious.

Difference is resolution and it is clocked higher, though my 300 is clocked the same, so resolution
Difference is resolution and it is clocked higher, though my 300 is clocked the same, so resolution
I think that's what he meant. Larger screen (resolution) that sucks performance because Tegra 3 has way too limited memory bandwidth and a GPU that should be pushing 1280x800.
