News F2P Call of Duty Online Coming to China By Mike Nelson | Jul 3, 2012 Activision wants a piece of that international competitive shooter market. This morning some Call of Duty PC news hit the presses. No, it wasn't to announce that CoD Elite was finally coming to PC, but it was to announce something rather forward-thinking for Activision Blizzard. That news was to officially announce Call of Duty Online, a free-to-play version of the ridiculously popular shooter franchise that's set to release in China in the near future. No word on it ever showing up here in the States however. That's what we have regular ol' Call of Duty for. Here's a bit from the official press release: The new game Call of Duty Online for China will capitalize on the rich multiplayer experience that the Call of Duty franchise is known for and introduce a new gaming model designed specifically for the Chinese market. This new model will allow players the ability to personalize their weapons, characters and equipment like never before in a Call of Duty game. Using an in-game store, players can enhance their weapons, gear, and perks built specifically for the Chinese market. The new game will also bring a variety of game modes and maps and features an original story told through a series of Special Operations missions based on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare universe. I'm actually a little bummed that there's no plans to bring this over to the States, because I think it would be great. Sure we have many Call of Dutys to play right now, but a free micro-transaction based CoD game would blow the hell up. It also kind of shows the rest of the world that the free-to-play shooter model is starting to be taken seriously from major developers and publishers -- I think any remaining associations that F2P just means "Facebook games" is officially over at this point. How well these micro-transactions will be priced, or how much of CoD Online will actually be free (or if it's nothing more than a glorified demo) are all yet to be determined. What are your thoughts about this news for Call of Duty Online? Bummed that it's not coming to the States? Do you wish for a world where Call of Duty never existed? Let us know in the comments below.
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/call-of-duty-online-project/1225301p1.html God help you if [del]someone already posted this[/del] they add hats
lmao now the chinese can learn racial slurs from kids too
Everyone deserves a chance to get called a faggot on a multiplayer online game.
What did China ever do to them?

Haha this takes lazy developer to a whole new level. TF2 reskin on a Battlefield Heroes map.
i think a reskin would imply that it's gameplay is similar to tf2 or the other way around perhaps?
Yes, that is what it implies, and as you can clear see: it's TF2 with a BFH map. They've even since released a reskin of KOTH Harvest.
The soldier looks like a fireman. lol
That's what he's supposed to be there... for some reason. The smushed HUD icon is hilarious.
You're either saying TF2, Super MNC and T:A are Facebooks games... or you're bad at reading.
I believe what he was trying to convey is that the writer completely forgot that there are some massive, well made F2p games out there that already changed the definition of f2p from "facebook game" to "a business model that can push out a AAA quality game." Team Fortress two is one of the most played games on steam and it has a whole subsection here on FP. I don't see why he got boxes for that post.
This looks....odd. MW2 Maps/guns, and some CoD4 maps? There also appears to be a map based on that one Campaign mission in MW2.

But if you want to list big F2P games that are damn awesome, you need to bring out the big guns. [t]http://i.imgur.com/pvWzX.jpg[/t]
Free to play, pay to win.
I always fucking hated the Free to Play concept.
Free to play, pay to win.
I believe CoHO also had a similar idea. While it worked in China, the English release was shut down. It's unbelievable how much money pay-2-win games in China, Korea and Japan makes; the American counter to the P2W strategy is with DLCs, which is, IMO, much better than the P2W system.
So instead of it being an American Cold War power fantasy, it will be a Chinese Cold War power fantasy instead? That would be cool, fighting as someone other than the USA for once.

Never thought I'd see the words Free To Play and Call of Duty next to each other.
