Changed some things around, for people checking back. Price was a tad too high I know I've posted here before, basically asking the same thing, but now that I'm buying the parts in the next week or so, I thought I'd post again. Make sure I have the latest deals and prices in mind. - - - Things I can reuse - Mouse - Keyboard - Monitor (however, if there's extra money, I'd love a new one) - OS Uses - Gaming, definitely. Modern games at medium settings at least, if possible. - Probably messing around with Blender, and video editing, Adobe After Effects. (no heavy editing, just messing around mostly. Not a top priority) - General use. - Heavy usage of Flash CS5 - Probably code compiling. C++ - Probably running a virtual machine of Windows, when in Linux. Requirements - NVIDIA Graphics card, if possible. Running Linux primarily. However, if you know of an AMD graphics card that doesn't throw shit-fits with Linux, I'd be happy to take a look - Intel processor. No particular reason, just more familier with them. (feel free to knock some sense into me though, if you think it's needed) - Would like to attempt overclocking at somepoint. I'm in the US, so Newegg would be preferable. Budget would probably be between $600 - $800, may be able to go a little higher if necessary. Current Build Due to the combos ending, I've had to make a new build, only missing the power supply. Suggestions?
You can probably fit a 2600K into around $900 using combo deals, like G43 + 2600K, HAF 912 + GX650, 8GB RAM, 560 ti, spinpoint f3 (~$850)
I'm not seeing any combo deals for the G43 + 2600K, unless I'm looking in the wrong place... [editline]28th July 2011[/editline] Which I was. Found it. [editline]28th July 2011[/editline] All that adds up to $874.93. I should be able to afford that, however, if not, would replacing the 560 Ti with a normal 560 affect things too much? [editline]28th July 2011[/editline] ...and another thing. Been reading that the cooler/fan that comes with the Intel processors isn't the best, especially if I am planning on overclocking. Any recommendations on one? Plus, there any specific reason to go with the 2600K i7, compared to the 2500K i5? Price is getting a bit too high.
You can easily go with 2500 K and max out games with that gpu,but then if you are into heavy editing you will benefit from 2600 i7. Grab a hyper 212+ (Cooler master ) cooler and that's it.
-snip- Starting from scratch.
It depends on what you want to do with After effects. To start with it needs to be a decent 64 bit to run smoothly. From personal experience.
i5 2500K ASUS P8P67 LE gtx 560ti 1tb spinpoint f3 corsair psu CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W Chose a case
$760, got 2500K/4GB RAM because I don't think messing around in those programs mentioned warrants an i7/8GB RAM [t]http://i.imgur.com/tWPzU.png[/t] links: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118039 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133377 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104203 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.688423 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.689907 I've heard you can do a ~4GHz overclock with the stock fan, so try that, and if you want to overclock any further, I suggest checking your local best buy for A50/A70s
Alright, that's what I'm going with then. Appreciate the help! You'll probably see me again, when I inevitably screw up. xD
good luck. I have a slightly OC'd 2500k (4GHz) and can record/edit videos just fine.
Good job, have fun with your rig
Ummm, looks like the combo Case/PSU and CPU/Mobo deals have ended... I'm still unable to order the parts, for at least another week. Current build adds up to $450. Are there other deals, or individual parts that would meet my needs, but not go above my limit too much? [editline]1st August 2011[/editline] Would like to keep the HAF 912. Seems like a nice basic case. Correct me if there's something better though.
Final build. Just making sure there are no incompatibilities or anything, no problems with the build.
I really wouldn't get that keyboard and a pre-overclocked graphics card is a waste of money most of the time unless you're getting a great deal on it, power supply is fine but you can get a 750w XFX Core for $5 more which would leave you more comfortable room to upgrade in the future (especially if you go with two cards), or an Antec 750w High power which is $70 after rebate. So to finish, keyboard isn't great, pre-overclocked card isn't neccesary (unless great deal or amazing cooler) and you can get better PSU's for the same price if not cheaper.
Alright, I'm sticking with the keyboard simply because I currently have the wired version, grown used to it. Thanks though.
that, and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130583 8x/8x PCI-E slots for the same price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121466 same card lower price, use the code to get an extra $10 off too
If you have the wired version why don't you just use that and get a 560ti instead? There's a good 15%(ish, depends on a few factors) difference in them. And even if you don't want too, wireless keyboards are only useful if you plan to use them away from the computer, spend the extra and get a blackwidow for a quality mechanical keyboard if you don't need it to be wireless.
Alright, looks good. Thanks! [editline]2nd August 2011[/editline] Also, forget the keyboard, can't afford it anyway.
Post the completed sheet just to double check, you never know.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.660242 CPU/Mobo combo, saves you an extra $20

Do the combo reapaninja said and you should be good to go, also the Antec Higher power as mentioned is a fine power supply and is a bit cheaper so if you feel you want to save a bit more you can do so.
Sounds good. Again, appreciate it.
Enjoy the new rig then!

I did mean the High current yes, I also prefer the XFX too but both are fine and it's nice to have options, especially if one of them saves you a bit of money.
If you are editing you will want 8GB first before 2600k. 2600k's extra threads only come into play in super heavy processing for effects and not having enough ram could completely destroy your productivity, not just slow it down.
I may up it to 8GB, it's not that much more, although I'm not positive if I'll need it or not.
Either go with a single 4gb stick or two. Going with a 2x2gb kit means your max ram you'll ever have would be 8gb unless you replaced all your memory. Also you will use it if you edit video.* *source = I edit video as a job.
Sorry to bump, and probably a stupid question, but would this build be capable of playing Skyrim? Anyone know of estimated system requirements?
