Hey, I have just built a PC and I am looking to buy an operating system so I have found a copy of windows 7 from Novatech. Will an OEM operating system install from bios on my newly built PC?
Heres the link: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Software/OperatingSystems/Microsoft/GFC-00599GFC-00977.html
Will it 100% work?
Yes, but it'll be tied to that PC. The license won't work on another computer and/or if you upgrade your motherboard. Not sure about other hardware.
So long as you have an optical drive

I do, yes.
If you need to install it on another computer, call up Microsoft and they will reactive your key.
ONLY if you are building a new computer, not to just have more computers with only one disk.
It should work fine, just remember to bare this in mind.

Also AFAIK you won't be getting any support from M$.

Going off-topic but would this work for an XP OEM key which is coming up non-genuine? (it isn't warez or anything, the guy was selling technet keys or something like that).
Ok, So my dad is going to pick me up a copy tomorrow.
Hopefully it will work fine as I cannot return it if it doesn't.

I do not know, but you can give it a shot.

Isn't it illegal to sell of the testing purpose ones?
Like all the TechNet disks are meant for testing..

I thought.
The OEM means that the Windows Key will be bound to your hardware, so when you change your hardware configuration to much Windows will panic and scream that your Windows is no longer valid, in order to correct this you just have to reactivate your key using the telephone, when you get to hear your key isn't valid you'll get someone from customer support on the line, when you tell them that you've changed your mobo/cpu or something else they'll just reactivate your key and you'll be fine.
The difference between the retail version is that the retail version both contains 32bit and 64bit and that Windows won't panic when you've changed alot of hardware.

Possibly, but I wasn't informed at the time (I bought it from eBay). It looks completely genuine and there's chance of it being fake, but Windows insists it's non-genuine when I use it.

You don't need an optical drive to install a OS.
Not necessarily, but it makes things a lot easier given that the Windows 7 OEM installer comes on a disc.
I'm pretty sure you can order a online version of windows that you download. Hint hint.

You didn't get what I meant but thanks.
I got what you meant, I was trying to steer off the subject of something we don't talk about around here.
