Skype has admitted there's a problem, with Skype's Social Media Communications Manager Peter Parkes on the Heartbeat support blog saying "A small number of you may have problems signing in to Skype. We're investigating the cause, and hope to have more details to share soon.". [b]The tweets of the disaffected frequently blame Microsoft, which is a little avant la lettre - although the deal whereby Microsoft buys Skype has been announced and agreed, it hasn't actually been closed yet. Many blame Microsoft, and even founder Bill Gates for the downtime, which is sort of strange because the multi-billion dollar acquisition of Skype hasn’t even closed yet. Anyway, let’s pray that this isn’t a repeat of the Great Skype Outage of December 2010, when the apocalypse appeared nigher than ever. Funnily enough, a bug in the Microsoft Windows client was to blame for that one. If you’re affected by the downtime, you’d be well advised to monitor Skype Heartbeat (although it claims things are all working normal at the time of publication) and @Skype.
As of the last 30 minutes, my Skype client has updated and failed to connect. Also hearing about the same thing from my friends and family. I sincerely hope this won't be as big of a deal/downtime as the last big Skype crash. From what the article says, Microsoft isn't to blame. I wouldn't be surprised if portions of the update were meant to prepare the Skype client for Microsoft's acquisition, though. Oh, wonderful, first time I've ever made a typo in a thread title. It's way too early here.
Even if Microsoft did own Skype the company would likely remain the same anyway.
Welp, no talking to friend in class then i guess..
Even if Microsoft did own Skype the company would likely remain the same anyway.
Except for customer support. Microsoft's acquisition of Skype brings with it the promise of over the phone tech support; something Skype is severely lacking in at the moment.
I just noticed my Skype not connecting as well
Ah, so that's why I can't sign in.
This happened 2 weeks ago too, right?
Welp, no talking to friend in class then i guess..
Same here.. I used Skype only for my classmates.
I can't connect either, I need to run Dark Heresy in 2 hours :argh:
Should be fixed now. At least I got in like 10 minutes ago.
I can log in as well.
Happened to me today, cant connect, the some moments later it crashes but its back now
I see, that's why I can't login.
sigh i was wondering why it crashed earlier today tried re-logging in got in for like half a sec then it crashed
Funny how people are blaming Microsoft like the article says. Even if the deal had closed already, they'd still be getting themselves set up and it would've been hard for them to do anything like this.
Finally, a reason to not talk to people
Yeah, my Skype died for around 2 hours and my contact list slowly came back up.
The update before this one broke mine. Had to re-install.
Except for customer support. Microsoft's acquisition of Skype brings with it the promise of over the phone tech support; something Skype is severely lacking in at the moment.
and quite probable deliberate half arsing or cancellation of the android client
Except for customer support. Microsoft's acquisition of Skype brings with it the promise of over the phone tech support; something Skype is severely lacking in at the moment.
what if your main phone is though skype :v:
