I have an ADM Athlon 4800+ Dual-Core, at 2.4GHz stock. When I try to even overclock it by 10%, my OS won't start. It lets me select my OS at startup as usual, but windows won't load.
I have an ASUS A8N-8 Mobo, 3GB RAM, and my OS is Windows 7 Build 7100(RC2)
I am trying to overclock it in my BIOS, boosting it from 2.4GHz to 2.65GHz by changing the frequency from 200 to 220. Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: You may not need to know but i have an EVGA e-GeForce 9600GSO, and a 700W PSU
What CPU cooler are you using? Either your CPU is overheating from a crappy cooler (stock or cheap) or your PC has bad airflow and/or lots of dust and is overheating. Run Realtemp (google is your friend) to find out what temps you're getting.
I'd suggest you get a good cooling system for your CPU, and then push it up to 220 MHz again, but raise the vcore a few notches.
its stock, and can you recommend any good/cheap CPU cooling systems?
Xigmatek S1283 is a great $/performance cooler, and if you're in the US or Canada then have a look for it on www.newegg.com.
Stock coolers are not meant for overclocking, and can run really hot. Have you read guides/know what you're doing when OCing? I'd suggest you have a look at this thread if not: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=22916
Once you buy a good CPU cooler, make sure you apply it properly (properly seated and thermal paste applied correctly) and also make sure your case has good airflow!
Even if it doesn't have any extra fans in it, dust it and use cable ties to keep cables clamped down and out of the way. If you don't have case fans, consider getting at least one for the back. If you do, good for you!
I have a coolmaster case, it has great airflow, and it has 2 coolmaster fans front and back, and im in the US, thx for the help!
You need a black edition AMD CPU with an unlocked multiplier to overclock. I couldn't get my 6400+ from 3.2 to 3.35 without it failing.

Lol, not true. I've seen plenty of people on TechPowerUp do some great overclocks on older AMD chips, one guy even got a sempron from 2.1 GHz to 2.8 GHz. :D
Are you increasing the voltages?
But yeah, get a new cooler.
