• House Democrats Insert Gay Rights into Immigration Debate

[release]WASHINGTON -- House Democrats are trying to broaden support for immigration reform by reaching out to the gay and lesbian community with a provision in immigration legislation that would allow gay and lesbian Americans to bring foreign partners home to the United States. Under current law, American citizens and other legal permanent residents can get a green card or immigrant visa for a spouse or immediate family members living abroad. However, the same rights do not extend to same-sex couples living in the country. During a news conference on Capitol Hill Thursday, Democratic Reps. Jerrold Nadler of New York, Luis Gutierrez of Illinois and Mike Honda of California, among others, urged Congress to pass the Uniting American Families Act as part of a comprehensive immigration reform package this year. "Right now too many same-sex, binational couples face an impossible choice," said Gutierrez, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee, "to live apart or to break the law to be with partners, their families and children." “Government should never engage in purposeless, gratuitous cruelty and we should stop it," Nadler said. ...[/release] Fox News
Fox News 2?
There was a gimmick account called foxnews
which got perma'd, sooo
Gimmic account or not. Why can't Dems keep septate issues septate?
Gimmic account or not. Why can't Dems keep septate issues septate?
It's hardly a separate issue. It's the continuation of Gay marriage issues and Immigration issues. it was bound to come up sooner or later.
There's nothing wrong about being gay, nothing wrong about being an immigrant, this is how they are similar issues.
There's nothing wrong about being gay, nothing wrong about being an immigrant, this is how they are similar issues.
Looks like someone finally gets it.
There's nothing wrong about being gay, nothing wrong about being an immigrant, this is how they are similar issues.
There's also nothing wrong with eating pizza. We should definitely insert that into this debate. Regardless, if there isn't a legal union between the gay couple, it doesn't make any sense under the law for one to be able to bring the other into the U.S. In the states where civil unions are legal, sure. But putting Gay Rights into this is just a political ploy, not justice or anything right.

[editline]03:17PM[/editline] I have a dream where every child burns the roof of their mouth regardless of where they come from. Wow, a not totally horrible idea coming from Congress for once. I won't say good idea because it'd give them too much credit, but it is something that should have been done a long time ago.
Eugh... you people... This is not an ILLEGAL immigration debate here, this is not INSERTING anything, this a totally separate issue which deals with LEGAL immigration of gay people and the people they are partners with. This is the worst kind of spinning by fox news. Don't think of it as an immigration debate, but more of an extension of the gay marriage one.
Gimmic account or not. Why can't Dems keep septate issues septate?
says the republican
Gimmic account or not. Why can't Dems keep septate issues septate?
Republicans are not any better, and from my viewpoint they're worse, but of course, I'm a democrat so I have a skewed view.
Gimmic account or not. Why can't Dems keep septate issues septate?
Read the first fucking sentence:
a provision in immigration legislation that would allow gay and lesbian Americans to bring foreign partners home to the United States.
It's perfectly relevant.
There's nothing wrong about being gay, nothing wrong about being an immigrant, this is how they are similar issues.
There IS something wrong with being an illegal immigrant. That's what this debate is about. Why do people keep forgetting that?
There IS something wrong with being an illegal immigrant. That's what this debate is about. Why do people keep forgetting that?
you obviously skipped the first line of the article seeing as this is talking about LEGAL immigration. get the fuck out. (and there is nothing wrong with Illegal immigration, they do more good than harm)
