Done with Adobe Photoshop CS4, Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and a hell lot of patience. PS: it IS a painting. NO FILTER RAPE NOR PHOTO MONTAGE. ALL PAINTED DETAIL BY DETAIL (except the background, that's a texture)
.... don't tell me that's a painting.
Something about his face...just makes him look DERP But very very nice none the less.
Something about his face...just makes him look DERP But very very nice none the less.
That's just the Engineer for you. Anyway very good work.
His right arm kinda looks like it gets skinny on the bicep, and then the forearm poofs up like Popeye's arm. It could just be the way I'm looking at it, though. Still, looks like a hi-def model. Nice work.
Go apply for a job with Valve.

It's pretty impressive, I tought it was a pose and photoshop, but after seeing how much of a fuckup the right arm is, I realised it's a painting. Blew my mind.
Mind = Blown.
Oh right fuck, I thought it was a shitty GMod pose on a background Christ if you drew that thats amazing!
Oh right fuck, I thought it was a shitty GMod pose on a background Christ if you drew that thats amazing!
thanks I clarified the OP since a lot of people mistake this picture as a Gmod pose and filter rape. The next one I'm working on I'll post an animated gif showing the progress, so there's no more confusion about what it really is
Too good to be true. Did you trace or 'cheat' in any way?
Too good to be true. Did you trace or 'cheat' in any way?
Nope, here's the original lineart: http://grab.by/3Oc8 There's a lot of anatomical mistakes in the original lineart that I did eventually fixed while painting it (but there are still some problems) But I think it's awesome that people think that I cheated or they mistake it for some Garry's mod pose. That means it worked
CC: he looks malnutritioned in certain areas.
The sleeves are weird and the jaw/chin looks too round somehow.
His beard and jaw is too round. His right arm also looks completely fucked up when you first start actually looking at it. The wrench bends a lot so it doesn't even look like he's holding it. His arm is humongous and becomes smaller as it goes up. I know all that is because he's holding his arm closer to the camera but leans the wrench on his shoulder so it all goes back in again, but it looks fucked up because the difference is so drastic and big. Otherwise you drew it too good. I personally don't see the point in drawing something so good that it is mistaken for a screenshot or filter rape. Then you could have just as well have taken a screenshot or filter raped a bit. But that's kind of a compliment.
The wrench looks off-center. Nice job otherwise.
That fucked up right arm looks an AWFUL lot like what happens to the model... I don't think it's a copy, it's just something I noticed.
I don't wanna be the jerk here and I bet everyone will be all pissy with me for saying this. But I really doubt that you drew it, the arm is what convinced me, because the model does that when you bend the arm and the jagged texture on his pistol holster is also something that is on the model. So yeah, this is why I think it's a pose.
I love skepticism: I used a shit load of references to do this picture, I didn't draw it out of the blue, so if the arm looks like that it's because I did research with the in-game model. It took me 3 days because I did extensive research into it. It is a painting, I didn't traced it, I didn't used photo-montage nor anything else. My next painting will be ready tomorrow and I'll post also an animated gif showing the progress of the painting so there wont be any doubt.
After looking at your previous threads, I take that back, I believe you drew this now! :) Awesome job btw! I guess you should take it as a compliment when it looks so good I don't believe it :v:
watching you on devart now, great stuff.
What's the point of painting over a screenshot without even fixing the horrible arm-twist effect? [editline]02:19PM[/editline] Also, your posing is a little off.

We are now at the point where people are pixel-perfectly replicating shitty real-time 3D graphics with a brush. What madness is this? (Looks good though!)
Nice.
Hey FreDre, if you want people to quit bitchin, get a video up of a piece from start to finish to calm these boyos down.
You have to get a real reference to begin with for any character fan art drawing the first time you do to get it looking accurate in my opinion. The fact that he used a dodgy arm as a reference doesn't make it a trace over. Even if it was, the painting skills he has are still excellent.
