Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that protests in Ukraine are "getting out of control". He described violent clashes between anti-government protesters and police as "scary" and accused EU politicians of stirring up the situation. Tuesday saw an uneasy standoff on the street of the capital after a second consecutive night of clashes. Young men threw fireworks and petrol bombs at police guarding the road leading up to the Ukrainian parliament. Police violently beat some protesters.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25823091 [editline]21st January 2014[/editline] *Russia
Not good. [editline]21st January 2014[/editline] I actually had hope that Russia was telling Ukraine's government to calm down. I was wrong :(
"Shut up and get police stated." Yup, that's the Russia I remember, being born before 1990.
Fuck Russia's government.
I'm sure this will turn out just as well as it did when there was civil war between George and South Ossetia.
I'm sure this will turn out just as well as it did when there was civil war between George and South Ossetia.
Did george win?
He described violent clashes between anti-government protesters and police as "scary" and accused EU politicians of stirring up the situation.
Yes ofcourse it's us. We have nothing better to do that stir shit up in the Ukraine. It's totally not the dictatorial government, nope.
Man, it actually feels like it's really 1989 again.
I'm sure this will turn out just as well as it did when there was civil war between George and South Ossetia.
I sincerely doubt Russia will just straight up invade Ukraine over this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93Georgia_war
Georgia isn't close to EU/NATO borders. If Russia did that it would fuck them diplomatically so hard
Oh dear.
At this rate, we'll be back to the cold war by the end of the decade.
At this rate, we'll be back to the cold war by the end of the decade.
Only with Russia being significantly less powerful this time
I sincerely doubt Russia will just straight up invade Ukraine over this.
If they do, we ought to oppose the invasion with direct military action, telling Russia in very clear and plain terms that they should fuck off.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93Georgia_war
are you actually comparing Georgia and Ukraine? you might as well compare the UK and fucking Somalia. [editline]21st January 2014[/editline] nobody is invading anything, get some perspective for christ sake
now that's some tyrannical Russian-type style Bullshit right there
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia%E2%80%93Georgia_war
Completely irrelevant. You might as well be posting a link to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
Man, it actually feels like it's really 1989 again.
Yep, time to party like it's 1989. I dunno what the hell's going on with Eastern Europe and growing antihumanitarianism, but they need to cut it out before someone starts sprouting mushrooms.
It begins.
In case people (like me) had no idea why there are protests going on:
The Ukrainian government illegally passed brutal legislation without following proper parliamentary procedure. Since Ukraine has no independent judiciary to nullify the illegal laws, the Ukrainian people have a mandate to use violence against the government until said legislation is repealed. If they don't riot, their civil rights will be stripped away and Ukraine will become a totalitarian police state. [t]http://i.imgur.com/1ZXXtKn.jpg[/t] Here's a brilliant infographic that explains some of the legislation. And remember, there is no independent judiciary, so the government can interpret the law in any way they please.
Also here's a livestream of the ongoing protests.
Russia (more specifically, Lavrov) doesn't seen to be doing much of telling Ukraine to calm down as the title suggests, but rather blaming the EU for it. Bloody typical.
I'm sure this will turn out just as well as it did when there was civil war between George and South Ossetia.
George never seemed like the war type to me.
accused EU politicians of stirring up the situation
Uhh, what? Pretty sure this never happened? The EU may have said the situation was "worrying" but I don't think that classifies as shit stirring. If anyone stirred shit here it was the Ukrainian government, who the fuck thinks it's a good idea to pass anti-protest laws right after one of the biggest protests the country has seen due to Ukraine sucking Russia's dick.
Hope all protesters who threw molotovs and bricks at police get shot by police the next day, or get hit by a bus or some shit. And now I will obviously get rated dumb by american pigs. P.S - Stop getting into other countries business, or get bombed and repeat 9/11 again, if you want to impact other country - take a hit too then. Now even USA is the reason for the protests?
What the fuck are you on about? Now even USA is the reason for the protests?
I mean that: all these americans on this forums always are on the protesters side no matter what happens, even if protester will kill a police man they will say he deserved it. US and EU should mind their own shit without getting involved into things with Ukraine.
Typical Russian dictatorship.
well, such a large, ethnically mixed state can't really work without a authoritarian leader

But Ukraine is at NATO's and EU's border, ofc they're gonna get involved.
