Hi, facepunch! I'd really like to try out something new in music. Usually i listen to mostly blues, classic rock and hardrock. Could you recomend me some mordern bands/artsists or songs? I'd be happy to try out new genres. Though, i don't really like really heavy stuff like metal, screamo. I don't like hip hop either.
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Glory Dizzy Miz Lizzy - Silverflame
soulja boy
Boards of Canada, Merzbow
Boards of Canada
This, i could'nt agree more
Have you tried Blue Oyster Cult yet?
you guys should say real answers and not try to show off what obscure bands you like
311 Incubus Sam Roberts R.E.M.
Dizzy Mizz Lizzy - Glory Dizzy Miz Lizzy - Silverflame
They're okey, but not really what i'm looking for.
soulja boy
No!
Have you tried Blue Oyster Cult yet?
Yes! I like them, but they aren't very mordern.
Boards of Canada, Merzbow
Not what i am looking for, at all.
311 Incubus Sam Roberts R.E.M.
R.E.M and Sam Roberts are ok, but not my style. 311 and Incubus, just no.
electric six and richard cheese
Not sure about modern songs, but try listening to some folk (I always recommend this :L) Try bands like Calan, Show Of Hands, Genticorum. Or for a good guy, not really a band but search "tinwhistler" on youtube and listen to some of his music.
Torche! [editline]04:06PM[/editline] also newer Enslaved albums, they're pretty prog.
Not what i am looking for, at all.
I wouldn't recomend noise such as Merzbow, but at least try a few Boards of Canada tracks before poo pooing them. Ratatat
you guys should say real answers and not try to show off what obscure bands you like
Blue Oyster Cult and Boards of Canada aren't really obscure, and stop whining if they are. Some of the best shit you will ever find in any aspect of life is usually off the beaten path.
Coheed and Cambria
Mastodon.
listen to Jesus and Mary Chain - Coast to Coast
Ratatat
Ooh, I saw them this summer at a festival. It was like 1 AM, I'd been to 3 previous concerts that night, the only nutrition I'd had was a pint of beer. I was completely exhausted to the point where I nearly fell asleep standing up. Then they had this huge canvas on-stage with randomly put together clips from Schwarzenegger movies projected onto it. Most psychedelic and one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Great band!
lungfish 16 horsepower pixies sex gang children mahogany the god machine some of my current high-rotation bands.. all incredibly good and consistent, imo.
Can you name some bands you already like so I can mention similar ones? Because if you just say, "Anything's good" this will just be another name your favourite bands thread. I'm just gonna say, check out ABBA.
Jim O'Rourke, not the experimental stuff. Particularly the albums Bad Timing and Insignificance. You might also like The National and Flaming Lips [editline]05:51PM[/editline] If you want, Sun Ra is good if you want to listen to some crazy/awesome Jazz music
I just found this band and I like them but you probably won't http://www.myspace.com/rooksil
If you wanna try out some funk the Philadelphia Experiement is good, as well as The L.A. Carnival.

I used to be "80's rock all the way" type of a guy. Nowadays I listen pretty much everything. Try out some psychedelic trance. Its really different than what you're used to listen. But you may be surprised. Put your headphones on and close your eyes. Listen to all weird noises and sudden twists. It feels amazing trust me. Hey he's still looking for new music, no harm done. Infected Mushroom is a great gateway into psychedelic from rock/metal. This particular track I've been listening to way too much.
