I think Lucas Pope will end being one of the big names in gaming, though he already is to a degree. Think Chris Sawyer and John Carmack, basically a household name game dev.
(Slightly clarified in post #8)

I disagree. While PP was a fantastic game, it's not exactly a revolution in gaming.

Paperwork, the future of gaming.

Seriously though, Carmack and Sawyer are mostly remembered as programming gurus. Carmack is Carmack, and Sawyer made all of his (highly complex) games in assembly. Pope uses OpenFL and Unity.

I love Pope's games, but that's a reeeeaaalll stretch.
Whatever happened to Return of the Obra Dinn ?
Am I missing the point or something for wanting to see more story-driven games in Arstotzka? I really liked Papers, Please but I would like to see more of it from a different perspective.

I'm not saying that because of Papers, Please, but because of the games he makes in general. Compare Papers, Please and Return of the Obra Dinn - they have basically nothing in common and they are both something that we haven't really seen (all that much) before. The guy's got ideas and he puts them in practice, that's my point.
It's not my point that he'd win a fistfight with Chris Sawyer, I'm saying that, perhaps, in a few years he'll be among the most well known and respected game designers - as long as he keeps up his current pace.

Perhaps I gave a bad example, but the point is most people don't know Chris Sawyer because he made games in assembly, but because he made those games at all. While I do appreciate the programming skills those two have, I had game design in mind more than anything.
