Reasonable enough if there are a solid amount of NPCs. I'd imagine much more than 3 mechs on a team walking around at once would be unbalanced.
I don't like such small teams, because you end up playing against a player, not a game. It's hard to explain, but it's what a MOBA feels like to me. Evidently lots of people dig it though, DOTA 2 has small teams and it's popular.
6v6 is a fine number if you look into it at a competitive side, but casually? i'd rather have the ability to customize server parameters to remove all npc's and up the player count to 32 or 64.
I really enjoy standard 8 vs 8 natural selection 2 gameplay - but that's one of the few games that I'm competitive in a lot of the time. This, in my opinion, could be good news if they have a real metagame to consider for player count. If it is to reduce strain on a poorly optimized engine to support the aging 360 then you can color this stupid. Granted, I know nothing about this game other than "fast shooter with mechs" so I guess I'll just wait until it is out and there's some reviews on it.
If it is to reduce strain on a poorly optimized engine to support the aging 360 then you can color this stupid.
You'll be happy to know that isn't the case for couple of reasons. Mainly, the 360 version is being developed externally and so design considerations for that version will not affect it's bigger brothers. Also, while there may only be 12 players on the server at a time, there are lots of AI units and up to 12 AI titans that can either follow the player around and protect them or seek out enemies and shoot at them. So this is player limit is definitely not a hardware limitation.
They're doing this for a reason, and I don't think many people really realize why. They wanted players to feel very VERY powerful in the mech, and struggled as to HOW to do that specifically. So what they came up with, is instead of having 16 vs 16, where titans are either very rare, or extremely OP/UP. They decided to add bots that blend in 100% with players. This makes the game seemingly easy, like playing an SP game; but adds the real thereissomeonebetterthanyou feel that MP games have. I really think it's a extremely awesome MP concept, and I can't wait to see how it pans out in the final game.
They should just do what MAG did and have 128 or 256 player servers, only you know, do it right so the game isn't a shitfest.

Now where the other players ar~ *gets killed by the most faggy and/or overpowered weapon imaginable* there they are."

They couldn't have locked it down that badly, could they?
It's source engine. They couldn't have locked it down that badly, could they?
It's the Source engine at its core, but that's where the comparison ends. It's piss easy to add restrictions once you're tinkering with the different modules. I don't expect they'll put much effort into keeping Source 'outer' features unless the design dictates it.

There's a big battle going on, but the important part is the fight between a handful of elite pilots while the soldiers are just fodder.

Have yet to see it so maybe it'l work out.

Kinda happy, I struggle to enjoy FPS when player counts get high as i feel like it begins to become a mess.
