• Negro and You: Playing "Racist" with your black friend

Hello Facepunch. I am Jayhawker30, or the artist formerly known as Afro7hundr. I am black. And as a black, I am something of a fascinating pariah in the eyes of my Anglo-Saxon friends and peers. When dealing with a black friend, the rules of conduct shift to accommodate those of ebony complexion. Suitable topics such as basketball, rap, chikinz and watermelon becoming available for conversation, effectively replacing hockey, punk, organic food and swimming. This is a welcome change of pace, making black friends like a District 9 in a sea of Love Happens and Whiteouts. Likewise, the standards for taboo also take a shift. For the darker, if you'll excuse the pun. It's fun to tease, whether in spite or humor. We did it as children, we do it today, and the long distance communication medium of the internet makes teasing a much less risky proposition, as the relative safety of being possibly miles away from your intended target means getting your flat pasty ass kicked for doing so is made a lot less likely. Understandable. So for what reason could you possibly have for not utilizing this spacial invulnerability to its fullest, and not tease a member of perhaps one of the most easily offended ethnicities on the planet? Why, dear reader, you have none. So, naturally, you do just that. And just as naturally, after the word has been said, you hastily assert that you were just kidding, stating that you really love black people deep down and finish it off with a less than sign and a three. Surely that was the right thing to do, yes? NO. This is NOT CORRECT. You do NOT TRY TO JUSTIFY YOURSELF AFTER THE DEED. Apologizing for it in an attempt to stem any sort of coming racially driven rage only serves to insult their intelligence. Does your black friend deserve that? To be insulted? Instead, forgo the apologizing, and just see how the target takes it. Keep in mind this only applies to teasing; completely blatant racist hate doesn't count. See if your black friend can take a joke; if you're lucky, maybe he'll even get in on it. See, contrary to popular belief, we have a sense of humor behind the overly sensitive yet tough as nails facade we so commonly display. Hell, I even had a completely racist buddy in High School. Mother fucker was practically a Neo Nazi with all the discrimination he carried. But I still humored him, and eventually we were cool. Shit, GaLm is starting a match for Crash Course... ok, let me wrap this up. If you gonna hate on your black friend, don't undermine his merit by immediately saying you're sorry in fear of his coming wrath, or trying to justify the word. It's annoying. That is all.
Kentucky Grilled Chicken.
Knee Grow.
The fact is, some people won't realize it's a joke. It's better to just play it safe really and assume the worst possible scenario.
we don't have many black people where I live but next time I see one I'll "tease" them as you say and post the results
I can't really tell... never spoken to a black person.

These two seniors in my french class make racist jokes all the time. One of them is black. He's cool with it. Why can't they all?
The fact is, some people won't realize it's a joke. It's better to just play it safe really and assume the worst possible scenario.
I think that's dumb. You shouldn't stop making jokes just because it might offend someone. Freedom means the freedom to offend, as well as be offended.

better to find humor in racism than to take it too seriously
I think that's dumb. You shouldn't stop making jokes just because it might offend someone. Freedom means the freedom to kill, as well as be killed.
There really needs to be a racist rating.
OP releases his inner racial frustrations to facepunch and is met with barrage of supportive comments.
I had a classmate who was black, we used to make racist jokes and he was always in on the fun.
Yes let's redefine our words so that they lose all their meaning and become contradictory to their real purpose. Freedom means the freedom to kill, as well as be killed.
Aren't you smart. :downs: I don't know if you're American but in the USA we have certain freedoms, ideally if you don't physically harm someone else then you should be able to do whatever. You should be able to say whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want, as long as it's not on someone's private property. Anything else is wrong.
Thats George Clinton
Don't introduce George Clinton. If you don't know who george clinton is, you obviously don't deserve to know who george clinton is It's the catch-22 of funk
When I was a boy, I was really freaked out when a negro child would come up and talk to me. I couldn't understand their orc-babble.
Eh, i had a best friend that was black, and i viewed it as Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.
