Honestly this seems like a pretty cool overhaul in my opinion.
People will moan about it. Even if it is nice.
I hope they will add a nice sound like the one from Xbox Live. That always made me go for archievements...Just that...

I want the achievement sound to be kinda 'be-lop' in it, but higher pitch, like.. 'bi-lup' or something."
I checked my profile to see if anything had changed and noticed I have a Steamworks Developer badge as of 2 hours ago. Profile page itself is the same.

I always get excited when i hear it.
No offense, but I'd rather valve started to optimize steam. It takes a whole 5 minutes after windows opens up steam to be online. Thats a LOT compared to origin.

And yeah it takes a good time to start up or to switch tabs. Holy shit, I was just listening to an RT podcast the other day where Gus said he would get into achievements if you had like a level attatched to your account that you could show off, and then you could get badges that have your level on them and put them on your Xbox avatar.
I like and dislike the idea that levels would unlock profile features such as a image banner or to change layout. A Dutch gaming website PU.nl has this feature and its quite fun because posting around actually counts (after X points you level up, to avoid spamming you can only earn up to 5 points per hour)
Could this be an attempt to push Greenlight? On Newgrounds people also have levels and you gain a bit XP for voting for 5 submissions a day. The more XP you have, the more your vote counts. Sounds like a system Greenlight could use to entice users to check back regularly. Some people just looove seeing numbers climb. Edit: nvm, didn't notice the paragraph beneath the preview in the article.

For example I wouldn't be able to do a "5 Daily" thing, since I've gone through all the Greenlight titles and there simply aren't five new ones added per day, but if they retroactively gave me a set amount of these e-penis points per bunch of titles rated I'd be the Grand Wizard Supreme of Steam.
I agree with the optimization of Steam's boot-up. It takes way too long compared to how fast it launches games.
Sounds like some cool features and gives more use to STEAM profile pages.
I don't typically have any issues with starting Steam, its usually pretty quick for me.
Loading screenshots on steam is the worst thing ever.
No offense, but I'd rather valve started to optimize steam. It takes a whole 5 minutes after windows opens up steam to be online. Thats a LOT compared to origin.
Steam != Steam Community. And sort your computer out, it opens in about 10 seconds at most for me.
Loading screenshots on steam is the worst thing ever.
This very much, uploading images is also quite slow but loading them is taking minutes.
I'm gonna power level

But seeing how Steam keeps track on what you've already rated and what you haven't, I think it's very possible people would get retroactively awarded. The X titles rated statistic would be simpler, but it's easier to condition behavior if you keep a carrot dangling in front of people's heads - such as the next level-up.
I don't typically have any issues with starting Steam, its usually pretty quick for me.
For some reason my steam suffers from "going into stealth mode". When I turn on pc or just decide to launch/restart steam it will often pop up for a second and then disappear altogether. Not in superbar or on side or anything and I have to kill it and relaunch again. No idea why it does that but it's so annoying.
I'm going to love this. I always loved collecting those badges.
I'm way too excited for this
oh this is cool
Loading screenshots on steam is the worst thing ever.
I don't even look at people's screenshots anymore because of how slow it loads. It is seriously embarrassing for them.

I'd hate to get all excited because I got an achievement only to find out that it was just one of my friends who came online.
This is pretty cool.
