Stop using that god damn word. It's scripts. SCRIPT. They've been around since the first video game in the 1940's. It isn't new, and it's only impressive to look at a couple times then it's the same as putting a grenade into a destructable wall. Same ol Same ol. They didn't put something in that they said they would. Story of EA's life
True "levolution" (fuck that word) should come from how different players and equipment work along with the environment DYNAMICALLY, for example look at Portal 2's liquid physics. It's a good basic example.
I don't think we'll get it right in some time, and even then it won't be "revolutionary" or other words ending in -lution. Being able to close a train cart door or making the lights go off isn't in any way "dynamic." I just feel like DICE sort of fucked their own mouth when they went along with marketing their game with a stupid buzzword.

Well evolution literally means "change", it's a buzzword and it's nothing groundbreaking but the term fits, despite how cheesy it sounds. Not many games have levels that drastically (in some cases) change on the fly
I actually like levolution, while it's not dynamic it reminds me a lot of Bad Company where the round ends different from when it starts.
But the only good example of levolution i've seen is in the Paracel Storm map, when the storm comes I notice that things get way more intense, people stop going lone wolf and they start sticking together, securing positions and defending them.
A sandstorm cutting visibility way down and grounding aircraft would be nice. Sad they didn't include that.
BF4, story of half-finished everything. First, they push out barely working game, take months to update it to working stage, then push out DLC that way too "light" on features.
Disaster.
I recently saw a really awesome video of a tank getting launched in air only to shoot a fighter jet. But then I came to realise that even the HUD barely looks different from BF3. What was even the point of this 60 bucks mappack?
Don't get me wrong, I've even played the beta, but this looks ridiculously similar to COD franchise. As in, no changes at all.
BF4 should have been DLC for BF3, and the BF3 DLC should have been free.
its funny how most of the levolution is just boring shit w/ the only real exception being siege of shanghai what with the tower falling
and its still shit because it makes the map less fun when it falls
I like Flood Zone and Paracel Storm with its changes.

There are plenty of changes and it's a lot better than BF3 both in terms of gameplay and graphics, it's hard to judge from videos, I had the same idea myself untill I tried it
Whether it's worth calling it a new game is debatable but it's nowhere as bad as your average CoD game
I love how dice goes on about how levelution, but red faction guerrilla had a better destruction engine, and that was years ago

No, to both of that. Do you know how much money and resources it takes to make content for Battlefield? Battlefield 4 should have went through extensive QA and base game debugging should have been a priority focus above DLC development.

FB3's destruction tech is much more advanced than Red Faction, however since they focus on consoles and stability they don't utilize how epic that engine really is. :(

BF3 had MORE destruction than BF4.

Despite having no terraforming, I think Guerilla still wins in the destruction department. You can bring down almost any fucking building you see.
I didnt buy BF4 because I knew something like this was going to happen, DICE make massive promises but constantly fail to deliver.
I think the more interesting 'levolution' is the ability to open and close shutters or raise pylons to give yourself a minor edge in a fight.

All we know about their engine is what they tell us. Neither BF3 nor BF4 showed us something really impressive in that department, and even what actually is in there takes months after release to fix. How long has it been since Shanghai skyscraper falling down crashed half of the server? And how often does it happen now. And what it actually is - nothing more than pre-scripted animation with a lot of particles, and yet it's all plagued with bugs.
i just can't read this as level ution, it's so clearly le volution

I've had the honor of being involved with QA for Battlefield 3 during it's entire span of Alpha and Beta, what the engine is capable far exceeds how far they take it. I really hope they utilize what the engine is capable.

Question is not what the engine is capable of mate, don't get me wrong. Thing is, are DICE themselves capable of implementing what they have properly? Because as far as I remember alpha and beta BF3, they pretty much axed the ground deformation because they just couldn't make it work as intended after a certain stage.
The engine is only as powerfull as developers' arms are straight. If their arms grow out of their asses, then it's all wasted.

In my opinion the best parts of 'levolution' is the small bits, like being able to raise and lowers bollards to stop tanks. Or being able to close some of the cage doors in Operation Locker' to stop people going that way.
The big map events are really cool in my opinion, but most of the time they just seem a bit gimmicky, and some of them are almost useless (Lancing Dam).
