I will be recieving a new motherboard tomorrow. I currently have a mobo of the brand ASRock, the new one will be ASUS.
My question is, when installing the new motherboard, will I have to reinstall Windows 7? And does that also means my HDD gets cleaned?
No.
It will help, due to driver conflicts. If you really don't want to reinstall then, do a system repair once you have installed the new motherboard to ensure that you don't get any problems.
You had to reinstall with vista when changing a new mobo and I almost certain its the same with 7. Its the only thing that you have to reinstall the OS for though.

also yes you will have to reformat the HDD so start backing up and this time you could make a data and a os partition so you can just reinstall in the future without losing your stuff.

If you want a bloated Windows installation trashed with HALs and drivers for two different motherboards that will probably cause strange glitches and problems, go right ahead.
For best performance with least amount of problems, it's always recommended to reinstall Windows when changing out significant hardware like the motherboard.
Although most MS websites go on about the "auto driver install" crap, ive done this with 2 different computers, and had craploads of errors. Long answer is, you can uninstall previous drivers, but the short answer is just to reinstall.

Even if you uninstall drivers, Windows doesn't actually uninstall them, it just de-references them and leaves the old files intact. It also leaves tons of information in the registry, both of which are for the "oops, I accidentally uninstalled x device and don't have the driver disk anymore" situations so it can reinstall the old driver if needed.
Like i said, short answer is to reinstall.
Thanks all, I got my new motherboard and I'll just reinstall.
