SACRAMENTO (CBSLA.com/AP) — California Gov. Jerry Brown Monday signed a bill imposing the nation’s first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags as a way to address litter, primarily in waterways. The legislation prohibits large grocery stores from carrying single-use bags starting in July 2015, expanding to smaller stores the year after. It also allows businesses to charge 10-cent fees to provide customers with reusable or paper bags. It's like this in San Francisco. It's all paper bags and reusable bags.
What about plastic bottles and aluminum cans or cigarette cartons and abandoned netting? Lets not also forget wrappers!
i've had this in my county for years now haven't had a plastic bag in ages so I'm used to it now
What about plastic bottles and aluminum cans or cigarette cartons and abandoned netting? And it's also good for the environment, obviously because they don't have to keep making plastic bags that are just going to get tossed onto the ground and not decompose.
can't pass a law requiring cops to get warrants though huh http://www.latimes.com/local/political/la-me-ln-governor-vetoes-bill-to-limit-police-use-of-drones-20140928-story.html
I haven't got a plastic bag from any store in the last year. I use my own bags. I can't tell you though how many times I've pissed off cashiers for not wanting a bag for a purchase. Literally I've had ladies say "I'll bag that anyway for you" and I've had to decline it. They act like I'm personally offending them by not wanting a bag for a carton of milk and eggs.
What about plastic bottles and aluminum cans or cigarette cartons and abandoned netting? I haven't got a problem with police using what amounts to RC aircraft with cameras on them, serves the same purpose as a helicopter without the need to have a pilot physically on board a large aircraft. If they start putting weapons on them then I'll flip a shit right along with you. Until then, calling RC planes and helicopters drones is just scaremongering meant to dredge up images of Globalhawks and Predators carrying racks of missiles and rockets, and even without weaponry those are VERY different beasts.
if you want to throw away plastic bags do what I do - use them as garbage bags saves money and stuff [editline]30th September 2014[/editline] I'd rather they simply were banned though the difference between bags and containers is bags float [t]http://www.cawrecycles.org/files/plastic-bag-in-tree.jpg[/t] meaning they can basically get stuck EVERYWHERE and they can wrap around something making it AWFUL to deal with
You have to pay 5p for them in Northern Ireland and even that has made a noticeable difference. I see a lot more people bringing a reusable bag with them, or even a small box put in their trolleys which they load off into their car.

That goes for any plastic garbage really. Metal containers at least stay in one piece and corrode away, and glass gets broken into smaller and smaller pieces till it's pretty much just sand. When I go shopping I prioritize in favor of food that comes in glass, metal or paper packaging, it's pretty much impossible to avoid plastic completely unless you grow all your own food. Once plastic has been used once, it can't be used to package food again, there needs to be a ban on using plastic as a disposable container because that shit is a massive pollutant everywhere it's used.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THERE IS ACTUALLY A GOVERNOR MOONBEAM?! Like the Gov. Moonbeam from Putt Putt goes to the Moon?! :v:
its fucking LA that ruined it for everyone, just stop dumping your shit in the ocean and waterways and throw it in an actual trashcan
its fucking LA that ruined it for everyone, just stop dumping your shit in the ocean and waterways and throw it in an actual trashcan
Pretty much, I was disappointed as all living fuck when I went to Huntington Beach and while walking on the pier, I saw a dead baby seal that suffocated because it had a plastic bag on its head. What was worse was all these children kept walking by and asking "what's that?" to their parents.
Of all the problems facing California this is what the government in Sacramento is working on? NEvermind the draught, crime issues in LA especially, the budgetary problems CA is notorious for, stupid laws that need attention, corruption at the state government level, and in general the trials and tribulations of running a region, Let's ban plastic bags from grocery stores! Priorities, Governor. You have none. There's so many more important things to do than this. Your state's literally on fire two months out of the year, your biggest city is literally the gang capital of the west coast, and you've got some massive water shortages. The bags can wait.

I'd let the FAA make that ruling before any state makes a call on it. Cant say you have a reasonable expectation of privacy from anywhere from above without a roof on it and I believe the 4th amendment already addresses this under the Open Fields exception. Protip: its perfectly legal for a citizen to fly a drone around taking photos as the FAA has no restrictions yet.

Just because there's other important stuff going on doesn't mean they should completely ignore every less important problem.
It's TestECull. California could literally fix everything and he'd still be complaining that they didn't prioritize shortening the state's name.
It's TestECull. I like that whole region of the country, I just can't stand the myriad of stupid that comes out of their government and populace.

Do you still have that grudge against Tesla?
What about plastic bottles and aluminum cans or cigarette cartons and abandoned netting? Lets not also forget wrappers!
Plastic bottles, aluminium cans and cigarette cartons are all very easily recyclable. Plastic Bags are a pure bitch to recycle properly.
I have like five or six plastic bags in my room right now. I am going to start a black market plastic bag business.
How about addressing the issue, teach idiots not to litter, its that simple. Also, don't most stores have bag recycling bins so you can return the bags?
I don't get the US, You give away the bags for free and the companies buys bags that are so thin that you have to double / triple bag stuff and they are so small that you cannot fit anything into them. Here they cost 1-2 SEK(0.21$) each that you have to pay for and they are much more sturdy and in most places "eco" bags. This also makes them have "value" we reuse them and use them for trashbags Swedish bag (Carry weight 14kg(28 pounds)) [t]http://tankemosaik.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/ica.jpg[/t] Walmart plastic bag (Cannot find any good source but i know one bag rips with 2-4 2 liter colas) [t]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8DfSAh6WKfU/S8yRB3L1HAI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/WEOuFlMB3O0/s1600/IMG_2723.JPG[/t] Came home from the US about 3 months ago so i know the difference quite well
How about addressing the issue, teach idiots not to litter, its that simple. Also, don't most stores have bag recycling bins so you can return the bags?
The ones at my store are filled with regular trash. You can't teach people to stop being stupid.
Does this also outlaw biodegradable ones? (Relatedly: Do those actually work? I know they fall apart under sunlight but can bacteria then process the fragments?) [editline]1st October 2014[/editline]
What about plastic bottles and aluminum cans or cigarette cartons and abandoned netting? Lets not also forget wrappers!
In Germany most plastic bottles are multi-use, and there's barely littering because there's a decent deposit on them. (On the single-use ones too but it's not as high. They still aren't thrown away much at all.) It would probably be a good idea to change laws to encourage that more if it isn't already the case where you live. I don't really know what the problem with aluminium cans is... Sure they use a lot of energy and are single-use but at least they don't fragment and can probably be molten down. Cigarette cartons: You mean because they are treated, right? Smoking seems to be going out of fashion relatively quickly, so this may be one of those problems that will fix themselves for the most part. Regulating them couldn't hurt though. Wrappers are pretty much universally hated though :suicide: There's a ton of better ways to seal something now so I'd like to see them phased out too. Then again, I don't think I've actually bought something with a thin awful plastic wrapper in the past few months. They seem to be getting more uncommon over here already. (Does your area have a littering problem?
