I recently acquired a SeaGate 500 GB hard drive to go with my WD 1.0 TB and my Intel 170 GB SSD.
My hard drive bay can support two mechanical hard drives with about an inch of space between them. So I've got nowhere else to put this SSD except for sandwiched right between the two properly installed hard drives. I've screwed the SSD to the bracket using it's vent holes. Now there is about a 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch of space between each hard drive.
Is that enough space to allow the hard drives to breathe?
Plenty.
If you're worried, you can mount the SDD pretty much anywhere with Velcro.
Thank you, I've got everything plugged and running. Just installed Windows 7 on the SSD, blazing fast.

Did this with our work machines when we got SSDs, basically scotch taped the thing to the case. Still works!
