Jail? Seriously? Even if it's somebody that's only one year below the age rating?
What the fuck jail time, seriously? Jail is for people who have to be kept away from society because they could harm others. Selling a videogame to a minor shouldn't take away your damned freedom.
"12-rated game to a child under that age could face jail."
I thought most games for 12 year olds little to no blood some damns and minor languages and a few sexual references or none at all.
And then the child who was denied GTA 5 at the store hopped on Steam, entered 1988 as his birth year and used his mother's creditcard to buy it anyway.
I bought 18 rated games with my debit card on Steam even though I was 14 at the time.
I think this has a chance at killing retail games.
one minute the gaming community is like "minors don't buy games so it can't cause violence" to "they cant be thrown in jail for selling to minors".
Relax, if anything this will just strengthen our case against retarded politicians who bang on about video game violence.
Plus, maybe there will be less 10 year olds playing call of duty or whatever.
All but the most extreme ratings are supposed to be a guideline, not a law to be enforced.
Yep, those politicians think this law will work so well, then they will be told about amazon, ebay, steam etc :v:
The system by which video games are rated in the UK is to be made "simpler and stronger", the government has said.
Are they serious? I don't see what's so hard to understand about turning the box over and "Contains strong language and violence".
Jail time for the retailer is excessive, especially for 12-rated games. A slap-on-the-wrist fine for the retailer is sufficient.

"Has bad talk and bad do."
HAAH.
WAAW.
Ridiculous. Age limits are a suggestion
That said it doesn't affect me being over 18
The new ratings do not apply to games bought online.
Just more reason for people to use Amazon and Steam. Retail market for Games will be dying even faster because of this.

Plus the fact it displays the age in massive font and noticeable colours. Are they trying to appeal to blind people?
The old BBFC ratings (the 12/12a/15/18 in a circle etc) worked like this. If they didn't have a BBFC rating there were no restrictions. The only news here is that it now applies to the PEGI ratings too.
A couple of years ago due to a decades-old legal fuckup being discovered, BBFC ratings become legally unenforceable for a few months until they passed a new law for it. Shops still wouldn't sell that shit to minors
This is just dumb, jail time for buying games for minors under the rating at retail.
Parents do this all the fucking time, hell I've done it for my cousin as a birthday present.
Guess I'll just send them a url to buy it and pre-paid credit in a birthday card from now on.

The penalty is for the person selling the game, not the person buying it. It's the same for other age restricted things like knives.

That's not happening
Now that i'm 18 I don't give any fucks about the age rating system :v:
If you look under it however they sometimes ask for ID.
Who buys games in a store?
This is definitively going to hurt the retail sales. : /

That's a good thing, retail is a pile of shit.
Long live digital distribution, it does not even affect me anyway.
Oh my, that is hilarious.
I doubt anyone will get jail time unless they were selling a lot of copies to minors; they will probably just fine people for the odd cases.
Jail? Fuck that.
By all means age rate games but do it on an advisory basis rather than impose it in law.
Yes, let's fill the crowded prisons even more.
Bubba is going to be happy.

You know countries could find a way to outlaw steam if they find that out.
Fuck age ratings, anyone over 13 should not have to go to the game store with their mother to purchase something.
