Well, my i5 has just shot to 90C playing Minecraft, it used to idle around 35-40 and on load it was up to about 60 all on stock cooling with no overclocking, but I just saw Speedfan while Minecraft was running and it reported the temps at 80-90 on each core, and now I'm idling at 50. I'm thinking of buying a H50 or H70 as these temps are very high for stock cooling. Anything I could check/what could have happened?
And what would you recommend if I do need to buy a new cooler.

Yeah, just checked again, launched Minecraft and temps shot up to 75 without doing anything, this is at 25-30% usage!
Remove the cpu cooler, clean the cpu surface and the heatsink, preferably with a thermal surface cleaning kit but coffee filters and rubbing alcohol work wonders too. Apply new thermal paste (a dot about the size of a grain of rice) and reattach the heatsink.
Make sure to clean the heatsink of dust while you're at it.

Oh and make sure the fan is running too.
It's not the stock cooling, it's how you incorrectly put the HSF on.
It's been fine for about a year, it must have bumped out of place or something, either way I'm ordering in some thermal paste and compressed air and going to clean everything out.
Check the temps with something else than speedfan.

Played minecraft for a bit with that in the background. Holy shit.

There's a shop near me selling Thermaltake Frio coolers for £30, its £45 on amazon, good deal?
Also, will buy thermal paste tomorrow - at the moment though, opened my window and ta-da! Idle temps wayyy lower.

Another update, I noticed things jumping around in CPU-Z so I went into bios, disabled all Intel Turbo w/e shits and C-State, and now I'm maxing out at 60C (or maybe its because my window is open at 3am). Either way, I'm fucking cold! Is disabling that bad? From what I read it just allows dynamic control of the clocks, but hey 34C idle down from 60 and 60C load down from 99, I can't complain.
I had the same problem with my i5 750's stock cooling. Went out and bought an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 rev. 2 .
Temperature never exceeds 50 Celsius now.

Alpenföhn Brocken saved my day. i5-750 and it never raises much above 45° and it's super-silent. It also never has to spin up to cool the CPU :)

This? Is it worth twice the price of this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/arctic-cooling-freezer-7-pro-v2-s1366-1155-1156-775-am3-am2plus-am2-939-up-to-130-watts
Honestly, I don't care too much about noise, as long as it doesn't sound like a lawnmower, and if it stops it going to 90C then I'm happy.
But first, going to check my local computer shop to see if they have any thermal paste. Just moved to this new area so I don't know anything around here.

Actually, I was just looking around in my BIOS. In speedfan only 3 fans are being detected. My case is supposed to come with 6 built in (NZXT Tempest), should they all be showing up under speedfan?
In my BIOS settings, the PWR Fan isn't being detected. I think I'm going to open up my case and see what's going on in there, maybe some connections have broken.

My PC is now not booting. I took out the stock cooler, cleaned it and replaced and my pc won't even post. Black screen (all fans running) and then switches off.
That was fucking weird, went to bed, came back and it works fine. In fact, after having reseated my stock cooler its running at 30C idle, pretty good! Thank god for that.
60C load, I think it's fine now. I'm still going to buy a new cooler soon though.
