Hi,
I need a laptop for school, and i was browsing newegg and came across this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-157-516&ReviewNo=2214349&SortField=0&Pagesize=10&IsFeedbackTab=true&rdm=47#scrollHelpful1
It is recertified but it has a 2.8ghz processor, 4gb of ram, and a 500gb HDD (only 5400 RPM though).
Basically what im wondering is, are newegg's recertified legit or should i stay away from them? ive heard mixed reviews about these. This laptop is amazing for the price though.
Thanks
Newegg is legit
Most laptop drives are 5400 RPM I think by the way.
So you'd say its a good buy? 2.8ghz is pretty fucking fast for a laptop...
Don't expect to game on it because of the GPU, but yeah it looks great for the price. However just be prepared to return it more likely than usual because of it being recertified, but I wouldn't stress out. It's just something to watch out for.
Will do. How strong is the GPU? like what can it handle...? HD video? sc2?

CS:s maybe?

Can anyone think of any better laptops around this price range? This one seems like a pretty good deal. If no one can, im going to buy tonight.
Both games on medium at full resolution. SCII will be harder to run than CS:S. Consider a desktop if you don't have one, but yeah that's a great laptop at the price. But remember it is recertified.
Oh i have a desktop. I shouldnt even be asking about games...this is meant for schoolwork.
What problems can i expect with recertified, besides missing accessories...? One guy said it bluescreened on him out of the box but he fixed it with software....
There's just a slightly higher chance of it having problems. There is a reason why it was sent back to the shop you know. For schoolwork that will be overkill. My Macbook with 2.0 GHz Dual Core, 2 GB RAM, and integrated graphics can run iMovie, Word, Chrome, and iTunes relatively well all at once.
Well a laptop with a 2.2ghz processor, 2gb of ram, and 320gb hard drive is the same price. So i say why not?
Yeah go for it.
Also can anyone else give your opinions in here? It's good to get multiple opinions.
it seems like a pretty good deal imo. I think ill go for it sometime this week. Ive heard only good things about this model.
Would this be powerful(?) enough to run Maya(the animation program) I'm interested in learning that.
I get recert whenever possible, usually when people send parts back it's because it doesn't do something somebody wants it to (ie shit overclocking, can't run crysis, etc.)
also yes it will run maya fine.
Sweet!
It raised in price a little (grand total is 60 dollars more) but i ordered it anyway. I cant wait for this to come!
Does it void the warranty (the warranty is like 30 days anyway) if i take the windows and AMD stickers off?
I'm not sure but I'd leave them until the warranty expires anyway, or at least until you first boot it up and test everything
Alright. Its coming tomorrow :D
Tell me how it runs. I'd rather have a laptop with better specs than a Macbook.
for about 1/100th of the price LOL
I will. It looks like a macbook (almost). It has the same brushed aluminum/black keys as a macbook pro.
the specs arent bad either. 4gb ram, 500gb hdd, 2.8ghz processor. for 560 (after shipping/tax).
Its here! so far so good.
Im doing the setup, ect.
the ONLY thing that looks the problem (its recertified) is that the plate on the bottom that opens to the ram and HDD, one of the prongs(?) isnt put into its slot. Its not affecting performance but ill fix that later.
How should i go about doing that? just unscrew the screws and re-align it?
Thanks
I wouldn't try and mess with it--I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it. It's hard to give advice on that since I can't actually see the plate, but if you think it's not too hard then go ahead and re-align it.
All i would have to do is unscrew the plate and re-align it. In fact, if i dont, they will probably think that I messed with it.
This thing just oozes quality. Everything about it is nice. The keyboard isnt ask "clicky" as i wanted though.

The Processor is running at like 58 degrees...Is that a problem?

wait. its at 62 now :0
Core speed doesn't make or break a CPU.
A core i5 down clocked to 2.0GHz is gonna destroy any dual-core at 2.8GHz.

Laptops run hot. You're fine.
This is for schoolwork. Not crysis max. (and i know what youre going to say - Its overkill. It was the same price as all the others that are 2.2ghz with 2gb of ram)
Alright. Thanks
