• US warns surgically implanted bombs may be used to target airlines
US officials have warned airlines terror groups may be mulling implanting bombs under the skins of passengers, reports said Wednesday, but stressed the alert was not linked to any specific threat. The Los Angeles Times said the US administration had warned airlines that extremist groups were considering surgically implanting explosives into people to try to beat enhanced airport security measures. Passengers flying to the United States could now face even tougher screening procedures, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration, Nicholas Kimball, told the daily. "These measures are designed to be unpredictable, so passengers should not expect to see the same activity at every international airport," Kimball said, adding existing methods could not detect plastic explosives under the skin. The TSA confirmed in a statement that it "recently briefed air carriers and foreign partners to provide greater insights into recent intelligence indicating the continued interest of terrorists to target aviation." "Terrorist groups have repeatedly and publicly indicated interest in pursuing ways to further conceal explosives," the statement added, without confirming the scheme to implant explosives. A US security official, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "This is new intelligence about a possible technique that could be used, however there is nothing to indicate an imminent threat." White House spokesman Jay Carney confirmed that officials from Homeland Security and the TSA had been in contact with airlines. "The action they took in briefing air carriers and foreign partners to provide greater insights into recent intelligence indicating continued interest of terrorists to target aviation did not relate to an imminent or specific threat," he said. "Terrorist groups have repeatedly and publicly indicated interest in pursuing ways to further conceal explosives and we continue to evolve just as the threat does," he added. "In other words, this is the idea that terrorists have been looking for other ways to circumvent security measures in order to target aircraft. It's not at all surprising."
Source I have no words for this.
Oh jeez
Next on the TSA's security checklist: vivisection.
TSA is just WAY to sensitive. I bet if the US pulled out of other countries and they loosened the security everything might be OK.
Well it is a possible risk. I don't really understand why it is necessary to inform people of this unless they plan to develop something that can scan for these devices. All informing the public does at the moment is create unnecessary panic.
Next on the TSA's security checklist: vivisection.
That username, he's a terrorist!
Anyone else think of Dark Knight?
That username, he's a terrorist!
oh my god JC
Also, how the hell are you going to put enough explosives into someone to cause damage to a plane without it violently rejecting or poisoning the person and hospitalising them?
oh my god JC
a bomb
Also, how the hell are you going to put enough explosives into someone to cause damage to a plane without it violently rejecting or poisoning the person and hospitalising them?
I am pretty sure they wouldn't just dump a load of gunpowder into a person and sow them back up. But yeah I really don't know if that is feasible in any way. It reminds me of an episode of Mayday where a terrorist smuggled a bottle of nitroglycerin onto the plane and even then it wasn't able to take it down.
That username, he's a terrorist!
YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME!
Put a block of C4 and a detanator in a vacuum sealed bag, and implant it the same way you would a Pacemaker or something similar.
I have doubts that would do anything but make a rather nasty mess.
It's just a theory. And it's not like I'm actually going to try this, right? Right?
By the way, a van is outside your house at the moment.

Makes me wanna call everything, "The bomb" at the airport when I go overseas this December. "THOSE TITS ARE THE BOMB!"
TSA is just WAY to sensitive. I bet if the US pulled out of other countries and they loosened the security everything might be OK.
yeah but politicians would have hissy fits.
yeah but politicians would have hissy fits.
They're having hissy fits over us not pulling out.
They're having hissy fits over us not pulling out.
Your right. But some will also have hissy fits if we do stay, those ones can piss off though. Also I just had the thought.... who the hell would POSSIBLY stay calm enough to POSSIBLY get on a plane with a bomb inside them? That is literally impossible, unless its unknowingly in there.
Put a block of C4 and a detanator in a vacuum sealed bag, and implant it the same way you would a Pacemaker or something similar.
The kind of equipment, training ect. you'd need to pull that off, you'd be better standing at the end of a runway with a stinger launcher.
They've been mentioning this on the news all day today. :(
this feels appropriate
The kind of equipment, training ect. you'd need to pull that off, you'd be better standing at the end of a runway with a stinger launcher.
Like I said, just a theory.
Christ, we might as well not fly at all. This is getting out of hand.
Like I said, just a theory.
Yeah, I think if Al Qa'ida do this they're just showing off.
Christ, it'll be like that scene out of the second Batman movie
Anyone else think of Dark Knight?
Yep. Let me guess, the TSA just now got to watching the Dark Knight together. Now they're all gonna be dressed as bats while on the job. At least until they get around to watching Avatar, at which point they'll hire the Blue Man Group and ban wheelchairs.
by surgically implanted do they mean up the butt
by surgically implanted do they mean up the butt
no because that would be 'anally hidden'
If terrorists didn't consider it before, they were probably inspired by this announcement.
