Zimbabwe's education minister has deplored the fact that nearly 82% of students have failed their basic school leavers' exams, the Ordinary Level.
But David Coltart told the BBC this was an improvement on 2009, when only 14% passed and blamed a decade of "chaos".
Zimbabwe used to have one of the best education systems in Africa.
Poor Rhodesia you used to be a diamond
I feel so bad for Zimbabwe. These are the same people who had to reinstate their currency four times because it got so worthless.

I hope things get better someday.
Poor Zimbabwe. It's sad to think how things went to hell in such a short amount of time...
I think I found their problem.

Chad says that the angle X is 95 degrees wide. Is he correct? yes/no
"Chad is a monotonous four letter word that is more likely to be given to poor people, this could symbolize that Chad is of sub-standard intelligence..."

On that note, it's good to see Zimbabwe is improving, if even slightly.

It has gotten so bad that they now use the US dollar, the only country to do so besides Equador

I think you forgot one
What happened to Zimbabwe?
Don't worry, for the USA, negative GDP growth is also considered progress. But considering this is Zimbabwe we're talking about, I'm not too surprised.
I think you forgot one
I forgot El Salvador and Panama
What happened to Zimbabwe?
It used to be a British colony named Rhodesia that became independent, and was controlled by a white majority government (colonials) despite being majority black citizens. Then two different groups rebelled against the government, and after a very, very long and bloody civil war of sorts the situation was arbitrated to be resolved via election. The people elected Robert Mugabe, the leader of one of the rebel groups, as the new leader of the rechristened Zimbabwe.
He then took land away from the whites who owned it, gave it to African families who had no idea how to farm, tanked the economy, and turned the entire country into a total shitpile.
Colonialism in Africa was a horrible thing, but Zimbabwe is the prime example of how not to deal with the aftermath of colonialism. A once-strong country was run into the ground by an incompetent dictator and overzealous attempts to 'take back' the country for the native Africans.

Because as we all know, the US actually uses rubels, contrary to popular belief.

Many countries use the USD alongside their own currency.
Many countries use the USD alongside their own currency.
I'm mentioning the ones that use the USD as their only currency.
I'm mentioning the ones that use the USD as their only currency.
Ah okay.
As far as I know, most education systems use really weird methods of setting the difficulty.
Over here, as far as I'm aware, they have a target pass rate, and then adjust the difficulty of the exams and whatnot to maintain that pass rate; for instance if the target nationwide pass rate for Level 3 English is 90%, they'll adjust the difficulty of the exams until 90% of the students are passing.
Pretty screwed up
isnt this the same country that has like 210 total dollars in the national bank?

If it's progress, good on them. It's better for them have a small itty bitty nothing progress then going backwards.
I wish they could even get a thousand bucks, could build a better room then that. Part of learning is the environment they are in, And that isn't the best place to learn nor even a decent place to learn.

Soon we will have paper money worth more than its value.
It has gotten so bad that they now use the US dollar, the only country to do so besides Equador
Panama uses it too.. (well, we have a currency called "balboa" but its value is fixed 1:1 to the US dollar and it has no physical currency of its own, instead, we use US Dollars for all transactions).
mugabe will fix it

I know a family from Zimbabwe. They said that the general economy doesn't even touch state issued money and instead use US Dollars. But even with a more stable currency like USD, inflation is still terrible. The average cost of a Toyota Hilux is like $87,000 and for some bizarre reason, everyone owns like 10-20 cars, despite the average income being like $200-400 a month.
Soon we will have paper money worth more than its value.
What do you mean 'soon'? I can tell you as someone who is legit from Zimbabwe that the money value was worth less than the paper it was printed on for a LONG time.

thanks decolonialism
thanks decolonialism
Thanks Mugabe. Really he is ultimately responsible for Zimbabwe becoming the completely broken country it is today, a lot of people are just waiting for him to die to see if a successor can get things back on track. It wasn't the process of decolonialism that inherently screws up countries, it's tyrannical dictators who run their nations into the ground.

Pickup trucks are dime a dozen in East/Southeast Africa, as they are commonly imported and retrofitted for use as technicals (AKA gun trucks), and then when a warlord is killed or a conflict ends many have the guns stripped off and are sold as normal trucks. Often they're used as matatus or dala-dalas, which are about as close to public transportation as many African countries get, with dozens of people piled onto a single truck.
