The leading human rights lawyer Gareth Peirce said the present situation “smacked of mediaeval exile, just as cruel and just as arbitrary”... ...In many cases those involved cannot be named because of ongoing legal action. The Bureau has also found evidence that government officials act when people are out of the country – on two occasions while on holiday – before cancelling passports and revoking citizenships.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/british-terror-suspects-quietly-stripped-of-citizenship-then-killed-by-drones-8513858.html
one of the dudes who had his citizenship revoked simply took his family to sudan(his home country) for vacation, and now not even his children who were born on the UK can live there... wtf?
Pretty fucking disgusting behavior.
This is concerning, to say the least. I really hope we do something about this, because whilst revoking terrorists' (or even suspected terrorists') citizenships is 'ok', if a bit iffy, allowing them to do this means they might start doing it to others too.
America's sock catching crusty bad habits? What a suprise.
I don't even know how they can revoke citizenships...
This is like something out of Half-Life 2.
This is like something out of Half-Life 2.
Don't forget to reload Mr. Peirce. (Guy from the article)
To be honest, that is one of the weaknesses of a dual citizenship. A lot of nations do reserve the right to force a person to decide on an either or and generally don't like dual citizens. That said, these specific cases are morally pretty nasty.
I don't even know how they can revoke citizenships...
Only in the case of dual citizens. That said, a lot of nations will strip you of your citizenship if you enter an army of a different nation. Though that's sort of finicky these days.
