• Apple shipped just 8 new MacBook Pros to Britain, and they're display models, and they got sold
Apple's CEO Tim Cook has a reputation as a logistical genius. Recent reports, for instance, have highlighted the fact that the company, of which he was Chief Operating Officer before he took over from the late Steve Jobs in August last year, turns over its inventory every five days. The only company in the report which does it faster is McDonalds – which is somewhat less able than Apple to keep products on the shelves. The Atlantic's Alexis Madrigal comments: A typical company in manufacturing might do 8 inventory turns [a year]. Samsung does 17. Dell, which practically invented hardcore electronics supply chain management, does 36. Apple is doing 74! Which means that the fact that the company's flagship new laptop isn't stocked in any of its British stores, and has a month-long lead time for online orders from the UK, represents one or more of the following things: A minor snarl in the supply chain for the company's most important product launch this year. An unexpectedly high level of demand for a computer which starts at £1800. A shafting of British customers to ensure American stores stay supplied. The fact that the American online store is showing the same delay as the British suggests that it may be more the first two points; while the fact that Apple experienced the same problems with the launch of the new iPad suggests that even Tim Cook can't run a company that keeps everything in stock throughout massive demand for new products. But it certainly is true that the company has focused on the US to a certain extent. The Regent Street Apple store in London was the only one in Britain to be shipped any of the new MacBook Pros at all. It only received eight, which were supposed to be used as display units but were accidentally sold to members of the public. Someone got in a lot of trouble for that. You can run the best logistics operations in the world, but cock-ups still happen.
http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/technology/2012/06/apple-shipped-just-8-new-macbook-pros-britain
HOLY JESUS DICK!
have we not fucking established that apple is overpriced or are we going to continue discussing this
have we not fucking established that apple is overpriced or are we going to continue discussing this
I knew that Apple's stuff has always been overpriced, but I would never imagined something so high.
"A shafting of British customers to ensure American stores stay supplied." Probably this one.
Soon macs will cost you the same as a small car. I'm not joking, I wish I was. But I'm calling it so hard wilder beasts are returning my calls from here.
Soon macs will cost you the same as a small car. I'm not joking, I wish I was. The best I can do now is:

Insurance is a different story but for one, it's not too far off.

So Macs are a bit expensive, in high demand, an apple store had minor screw up, and its going to take longer for the UK/Europe to get sufficient stock like every other launch. In other words things we already know and have come to expect. Not quite sure how this article has anything relevant to discuss or brings anything remotely new/interesting to the table.

When I built my laptop 3 years ago the difference was horrible... ~$1000 cheaper than the best MacBook I could build. My favorite part about the new hardware configuration is the fact that they're pairing the 2880x1800 display with a mid-range card that can supposedly only run BF3 at 1366x768 on medium. Well, it's a good thing there aren't many games for Mac.
So Macs are a bit expensive
Understatement of the millennia.
Why am I not suprised?
I remember doing the same with alienware
I still do it today, my friends and I have a contest on who can get the most expensive piece of hardware. I would win because I choose laptops. [editline]19th June 2012[/editline] And isn't the display models the exact same thing is the purchased ones anyways?
Well, the Retina Mac's are not *that* overpriced seeing as the display (what I know) currently is expensive to make.
Make me a laptop wich specs THE SAME as the new macbook pro. And make it cheaper.

Just FYI, this is the US pricing. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/5zwRk.png[/thumb] The price in the article was about the model with the Retina display. Either way 1800GBP isn't the same as 2200USD
And isn't the display models the exact same thing is the purchased ones anyways?
Pretty much in terms of what you get, yeah. But display models have been used (negating some lifespan) and obviously are not new.
Rate me dumb all you want guys but people buy Macs because they're technologically retarded, they don't want to have to deal with all the spec comparisons or reformatting or defragging. Personally I can do that stuff but a lot of people can't. Apple is smart for catering to the tech-inept and charging out of the wazoo Also, they have pretty damn good trackpads/keyboards and build quality, sure you can get a Dell with the same or better specs but it'll fall apart in three weeks. The only Windows machines that have comparable build quality and user friendliness are Thinkpads

Mac's aren't meant to play games and Apple doesn't market their products to gamers. Their products work, and they have amazing customer service. People will pay extra for reliability.
Cock-ups.

Given the opportunity I'd own one in a heartbeat. Everything is so crisp and clean, and I like OSX. I like how everything just flows together as one integrated package. That being said, I'd never buy one myself seeing as I'm broke as fuck and would rather spend the money on other hobbies. Sure I'll spend loads of money on computer stuff, but that's top-line desktop hardware or better spec Windows laptops. If Apple dropped the price to only a fraction more of the comparable Windows laptop, I'd pick up a MBP instantly.

I don't own a mac because im technologically retarded, in my opinion both have their respective uses. The macbook airs battery, screen and weight make it really nice for carrying to uni lectures.
I like this macbook because I got it for free
I remember doing the same with alienware
I could only get the most expensive model up to 11.000 and a bit though, not a whopping 16.737. I'd still say Apple's products are more expensive than Alienware's marginally.
