I was thinking of getting this one as it has the best price/performance value of all the LED IPS panels I've seen; should I get this one? Are there good alternatives? I prefer a 24 inch 16:10 monitor with 1920x1200 resolution. The main reason why I'm getting a new one is because I feel "cramped" in my 20-inch Samsung BX2031... I use my computer mainly for gaming, just saying.
I've bought one a few months ago and I'm loving it so far. 16:10 aspect ratio, much more accurate colours than a TN, has a great stand that you can adjust exactly how you want it, and it's got a good response time. When compared to a (supposedly) 2ms TN monitor side by side, the U2412M has just a tiny bit more ghosting, but you'd have to be specifically looking for it to notice it, and it feels just as responsive as the 2ms monitor. So it's good for gaming as well (really the only option to get a considerably better gaming monitor is to go for a 120hz one, but have fun spending more money on it). My only complaint about it is that the black levels could be a bit lower, and especially the backlighting in dark areas looks somewhat uneven and changes when you view it from varying angles which is a bit of a bummer compared to otherwise great viewing angles in brighter areas. It's not much of a downside though unless you'll be watching lots of dark movies on it.
I have a Dell U2311h and I love it. I can never go back to TN now that I've used this.
Most tech wannabees here consider this heresy but I suggest a TN panel.
In my opinion gaming is just not as good on an IPS as it is on a TN, the difference is small but it's very noticeable.
Try to make your way to a store where they have plenty of monitors on display, ask a store clerk if he can help you do a side by side with a fast TN panel and an IPS panel of your choice and make up your own mind. It's worth mentioning that TN panels aren't as bad as they used to be and much of the hate on TN panels is from when they used to be terrible compared to competing technologies.
Thanks for the suggestions. Will definitely get it very soon. :)
I'm sorry for bumping this but it's not that old and seemed like a better idea than making a whole new thread.
I need some help finding a monitor, it has to be 21.5" or 23" (i heard it's better than 22"), with good response time, respectable image quality, affordable and preferably Samsung or LG because that's mostly what sells around here unfortunately, but feel free to suggest any other brand too. Main purpose will be gaming so the response time is really important.
