What Are You Playing?: [del]Free2Play[/del] Walls of Text With Links to $60 Big Budget Games
i just want RPS
Can't wait until this craze of extortionately-expensive-microtransactions f2p games passes.
Every F2Pgame should be like Tribes: Ascend in terms of F2P.
Guns in Ascend are/were $10 EACH. No thanks. I want less of that. Edit: I was just looking at Mechwarrior Online. It's $120 to get all 3 Founder's mechs. What. The. Fuck.
Well, you can spend $10, or you can just grind your way to everything. And considering the game and gunplay is fantastic, I don't care if people have the newest fancy weapon, I will still wreck your shit with a heavy spinfusor
If you want Free to Play, here's the best ones World of Tanks Tribes Mechwarrior/Planetside once out Allods And maybe possibly Runes of Magic if all you plan to do is PvE This article has nothing to do with Free to Play so I thought I'd contribute, and I excluded what I call the Free to Try ones
when it comes out Planetside 2 sounds like it will be a great model for free to play with only cosmetic stuff or most of it anyway from what I know.

Even though it wasn't F2P from the start, it's one of the more successful F2P titles out there.
Only fair F2P game, in my opinion, is Dota 2. Every hero is free and you can get cosmetic items by playing the game. Either randomly or when you level up Funfact: Some very rare items do not exist in shop, they only drop. Not sure about logic behind it, but I wont complain.
I've been playing a lot of Blacklight: Retribution lately. That's just a lot of fun.

Never really played a MOBA before and never really been interested in trying, but it'd be neat to try. [editline]27th July 2012[/editline]
While it's not pay2win, it suffers from the same problem of being retardedly expensive. In games like Tribes, all guns are available to be unlocked no matter what rank you are. In Blacklight, you have to grind your rank up before you can use certain gear - OR you can drop a ludicrous amount of cash and just directly buy it. Some weapon parts are very expensive and heroes cost upwards of $20. To get the same content out of a free2play game as a standard game - it actually costs more to play most free2plays.
Ohh yeah, everything is stupidly expensive to buy permanently or you have to continuously rent your gear. I'm not saying that's not true. I'm just saying that the game is incredibly fun.
I tried out Combat Arms. Found out it focused heavily on pay 2 win in my first 10 minutes. Downloaded an aimbot and got banned.
I think he was going for the more less-known f2p games. Everyone has played TF2.
World of Tanks isn't pay to win, how many people fork out the huge insane assloads of cash it would take to play regular matches with gold rounds, I made it all the way to King Tiger without paying. Both teams in Tribes have access to the same stuff so I wouldn't consider it THAT unbalanced, and You can get instant access to Mechwarrior Online if you purchase one of the founder packs, and planetside 2 is fucking planetside. And everyone has played TF2, it's good for F2P but I remember when it was first out. Vanilla TF2 > Today's TF2
I am really looking forward to Planetside 2.
Can't wait until this craze of extortionately-expensive-microtransactions f2p games passes.
F2P games should be like Dota 2's model. Entirely funded by cosmetics.
I like the way league of legends treats it's free to play, while new heros being expensive as fuck bothers me, the weekly rotation of free champions is just awesome.
Oh yeah we care what ShackNews editors think/are playing, totally!
Oh yeah we care what ShackNews editors think/are playing, totally!
I liked the more simplistic journalism after RPS was removed, but it's become very stale with stupid articles like this one now and then.
Every game should be like Team Fortress 2 in terms of F2P
Fixed.
League of Legends model is XTREME SHIT for new players that started in 2012, but it's actually decent if you started playing the game a year ago. Few heroes were 6k, and even then the 6k IP ones had some skill requirement to play ( combo properly and whatnot ). The rune thing fucks up everyone that reaches level 30 without more than 8k IP, and while that fucking sucks, the fact that they release heroes on a 1-3 day basis WHILE reducing the price of already released heroes keeps the game fresh and entertaining. ( I.E Hypothetical Poopyblockus is released. Poopoos is released. The champion before Poopyblockus, Poonununus, has its IP cost reduced. ) The bussiness model may be XTREME SHIT for players that started on 2012, but I still love it because the free week often has 5 or more champions that cost 6k.
I liked the more simplistic journalism after RPS was removed, but it's become very stale with stupid articles like this one now and then.
A combination of what used to be CSNation and RPS would be great. But that will never happen.
These free to play games, I pick them up for an hour, think it's so cool, put it down, a month later I don't even remember why I tried it.
Every F2Pgame should be like Tribes: Ascend in terms of F2P.
More like every f2p should be the opposite of tribes.

dota2 the best F2p game if not simply the best game.
I'm trying to play Dota 2 but I'm not too good at it. I play APB once in a while but its repetitive as fuck. I still manage to get a lot of kills with the default guns. I don't get why FP hates TF2's F2P system though.
F2P games should be like Dota 2's model. Entirely funded by cosmetics.
Vindictus is good for this too, since the cosmetics are the meat of the market. You can buy armor/weapons sets too but they last so little time for your money and you don't need them at all unless you're entirely inept at gaming whatsoever. Overall the game is enjoyable and worth a look.
Lost Odyssey—a game that seems to have grown in reputation substantially since its release.
And I really don't see why. It's this growth in reputation that caused me to make the mistake of buying it. At least I got it cheap and used. If I can get more playtime out of a game on a single disc than I can out of a game on four discs something is very wrong.
technically pay2win, if everyone on both teams had the same tank, but the other team had gold rounds only, chances of them winning just skyrocketed (provided they both use the same tactics)
True, in theory it is pay to win, but aside from the odd person here or there, no one uses gold rounds in normal battles because they are massively overpriced and there's much better stuff that gold could be used for.
