Some of the basic rules were first announced earlier this year in the so-called Digital Agenda, including a mandate for basic broadband access across the EU by 2013, and a 30Mbps minimum by 2020. Perhaps most notably, however, is that the Commission has recommended that spectrum in the 800MHz band between 790-862MHz (being vacated as TV broadcasters make the switch to digital) be set aside for mobile broadband use by 2013. Just how much will it cost to implement the recommendations? Between 180 and 270 billion euros, or between 240 and 360 billion US dollars. That's obviously not going to come easily, but the Commision apparently thinks its doable, and notes that a number of measures have already been put in place to increase funding [/release]
How I love living in Europe. :3:
Things are only gonna get better.
We had fiber since 2003 and now we are getting 4g mobile bullshit up to 150mbit but most tests this far lands people around 80mbit. Then again scandinavia is the best europe ;)
And then there's people like me who live at 3,5km from the DSLAM and get only 6MB/s :(
I'd prefer they work on improveing home connections before mobile broadband because it's still pretty bad at times, atleast where I live.

And Fibre Optics in our country - 50% of my country is going to have it by the end of 2010: http://www.teo.lt/en/press-en/1455
Wow, love you EC <3 BT Infinity is deploying in my area on 31 December, 21 mb/s down 8.5 mb/s up. Can't fucking wait.
I love being an European, politics work more reasonably here. Though, it can be still confusing and irritating.
And still the UK has the shittiest speeds around.
UK needs to spend more money on Broadband, I've only gotten 500kbs at most on a good day on my 8mb down connection.
Old telephone lines just arn't cutting it anymore :saddowns:.
Nigel Farage can go fuck himself and his aristocratic chums.
Funny how the EU first votes through dumbfuck laws like the Gallo-report (last wednesday) that restricts Internet use and then vows to give Internet access to everyone.
Yay for Europe.
I want to surf the internet in my eyeball.
And here I am paying $50 for 1.5mbs because its the only thing here besides dial up :sigh:
