• The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK ISPs, court rules
File-sharing site The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK internet service providers, the High Court has ruled. The Swedish website hosts links to download mostly-pirated free music and video. Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2 and Virgin Media must all prevent their users from accessing the site. "Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) said. How stupidly ineffective that will be.
Now how will I get my distros Oh right, fucking easily
Oh no, no we'll have to use any of the other multitude of links TBP sets up for a time like this.
Oh no, no we'll have to use any of the other multitude of links TBP sets up for a time like this.
Oh and any proxy.
"Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," as a music artist with digital releases i can say personally that this is fucking idiotic. if that isnt enough for people against piracy; read up on the facts: http://www.laquadrature.net/wiki/Studies_on_file_sharing not that isps can actually stop tpb anyway lol
I get the feeling that this will just be a DNS block, much like we were going to be subject to across the pond. Don't you guys have something similar to safe-harbor?
Blocking TPB does nothing, as it's a P2P file transfer service. So block P2P services and you're good. But wait! Now pirates have switched over to direct download services! So then block direct download services. What do you have left? A completely functionally useless Internet. If they really want to combat piracy, it's either shut off the whole internet or shut the fuck up and let it happen. Quit pumping money into bullshit countermeasures and make a product worth buying.
yes this is great i am an emerging british artist and pirates killed my family and then shared their body parts online
They didn't even block it on BT, sensationalist headlines really makes it's name.
They didn't even block it on BT, sensationalist headlines really makes it's name.
I thought they were forced to block it ages ago.
Even if you don't want to mess with proxies or shit, there's tons of other trackers.
They didn't even block it on BT, sensationalist headlines really makes it's name.
It will be blocked in the near future, they have some legal necessitates to deal with first. I like how the ISP I am with (Virgin Media) thinks this is pointless, and they are owned by the same company that owns a record label...
I thought they were forced to block it ages ago.
That was newzbin.
Even if you don't want to mess with proxies or shit, there's tons of other trackers.
Or if its like any other block of the piratebay (and any other block in the UK) just access it via its IP. Or change your DNS. Or even possibly just https instead of http, but I don't know how effective that would be.
Ultimately, the best solution to `piracy` is to lower prices so that they are affordable to all. A 3D cinema ticket and a normal cinema ticket where I live costs £10 and £8 respectively, and I don't even live in big cities like London and Edinburgh. Why should I have respect for industries that are overpriced, overpraised and overpampered and then have the audicaity to sue individuals for millions for downloading something with they don't have the money for because they are poor? FUCK THEM!
But guiys piracy is stealing!!!!
They didn't even block it on BT, sensationalist headlines really makes it's name.
BT Broadband is shit though - their offers are terrible in comparison
Well fuck you I'll sail to another country
watch as they read this they shut the internet down great job they know our secret
oh well i'll just buy a gun and start shooting in the UK's general direction
Don't even need a proxy, AFAIK they only block the domain name so you will still be able to access TPB if you use its IP address Proof of concept - here's blocked site Newzbin TPB's IP is 194.71.107.15 Edit: Actually this might not work, not sure, but Jsm's https method does

If so could you test a theory I heard and stick https:// in front of the address and see if it loads.
Are you on an ISP that actually blocks Newzbin? If so could you test a theory I heard and stick https:// in front of the address and see if it loads.
Wait I screwed up and used newzbin.com instead of newzbin2.es, the IP thing doesn't appear to work but https:// does
Even if you don't want to mess with proxies or shit, there's tons of other trackers.
TPB doesn't have a tracker.
"Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," fuck off, it's like all they care about is the money. [editline]30th April 2012[/editline]
TPB doesn't have a tracker.
So it's even more pointless.
"Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," Yeah because the British music industry provides so many notable artists.
Ha, I'm on orange, and that ain't on your list High Court! Bowedyapper 1 - High Court 0 Anyways, I use google's DNS servers, so if it is just a DNS block, I should be fine:dance:
"Its operators line their pockets by commercially exploiting music and other creative works without paying a penny to the people who created them.
yeah that's funny i thought the entire POINT of piracy was that everything was free.
