So I guess I should tell a little about my family.
So on my father's side I'm Czech and some other European ethnicity (most likely Czech, though it's possible they were from somewhere else). The branch that I know definitely was Czech, left in 1873 from Bremen, Germany and went to Texas. The other half (the portion I have my last name from) left from Bremen in 1884, and also ended up in Texas. Kids from both of those families married, and ended up with me somehow.
Now on my Mother's side I'm Polish and Russian. The Polish Half I know about both important parts of it, one family (my Great something Grandfather Mikołaj's branch) was from Russian controlled Poland, while the other half was from Austrian controlled Poland. They both ended up leaving in 1907, Mikołaj was conscripted into the Russian army in 1905 after the officers that showed up to his house didn't find 2 able-bodied men (he only had daughters), so they took him even though he was a bit over age (at least that's how the story goes) and if I were to take a guess that would be why he ended up deciding to leave. I'm not sure about the other part of the Polish branch of my family, other than they both ended up arriving in the same small city in Connecticut the same year (basically where I live).
The Russian portion of my family left in late 1916/early 1917 (I'm not entirely sure when, I'll have to find records), but I know that my Great-Grandmother who passed away about a year ago was not yet born when they left Russia, however she was born only months after they arrived and she was born in early 1917. I'd wager they left due to the political turmoil occurring at the time, no less in part since at least according to my family members they had worked for the Czar in some capacity.
I gotta do more research, and I definitely want to do one of those DNA tests where you can track where your ancestors are from.
So what's your family history Facepunch?
I have no slav in me, and I have ancestors who were on the Mayflower.
Both of my grandpas served in the Turkish Air Force and the Turkish Navy.
Mom's an engineer and dad's a realtor.
Mom's side:
Her dad's side is originally from Crimea, whom got exiled from the Crimean Khanate to Rhodes after they lost their claim to the throne where they ended up mingling with the locals I believe.
I don't know much bout her mom tbh, from what I've been told she was half Bulgarian (or Albanian?)and half Crimean (Tatar).
Dad's side belongs to a nomadic Turkic group which ended up settling down in Central Anatolia.
It seems like their wives were Circassian if not Turkic.

Yeah I'll also give it a try.
Oh boy where do I start.
I have straight up Samurai on one side and Scottish Pirates and a direct link to Abraham Lincoln on the other side. The Scottish part of my family entered the US before the revolution. Also on that side of my family are a bunch of Germans who came to the US as mercenaries during the revolution and decided to stay, they ended being one of the first family of white settlers in Wisconsin.
As for the Japanese side of my family I know for a fact that we had Samurai in our family (we have a family sword in a Museum somewhere as I recall) and that they came to the US in the thirties. My great grandfather opened up a laundromat in Hollywood literally down the street from the chinese theater. The property (which was worth quite a lot of money) was confiscated after Pear Harbor and my family was sent to Manzanar.
Theres more to it (I don't know much about my Vietnamese part of the family other then that they were evacuated from Saigon as it was falling)
So in about 1913, my great great grandfather or something like that came to Philadelphia from Italy
He'd had a reputation, so to speak, in Italy, so when he arrived the Mafia wanted him to join them.
He wanted a new life, and he had a wife and kids, so he declined.
They eventually told him to either join up or die. They took him to a basement in South Philly, and asked him what he was going to do.
He took out a shotgun and killed the two men there, and immediately got on a ship back to Italy with his family.
The second he stepped off the boat in Italy, he was drafted into WWI.
He was thrown in a German interment camp, from which he escaped. He was caught shortly after, and thrown back in a different one. He among many others, got very sick with a shit ton of things.
When the camp prisoners were set free, he (slowly) made his way back to his home in Italy. He had some fun outside of Florence, and I now have some cousins there.
He got back, upon which he discovered he now had two grand kids.
One of those was my great grandmother. She and her brother and their parents returned to Philly, and she has lived there ever since.
I have no clue about the Irish side of my family.
I'll bring detail later on.
Dad's side is Czech/Irish/Cherokee
Mom's side is Irish/Swedish
I'm mostly Irish/Czech in terms of traditions and naming, through I take a lot from the Swedish side. It is unknown if I have any Ashkenazi in my background, though I did have a great cousin (granddad's cousin, is that what you call it?) who moved to what was still British Palestine in '46
I dont know about my ral family but my stepdad apparently have an axe murderer in his lineage
My grandpa loves doing genealogy work and has done his line all the way back to the 900s (which is where the LDS church says stop because the records are wonky) and he discovered my mom and dad are related through the Duke of Normandy, my dad's side through the main wife and my mom's through the 26th concubine :v:
Both of my parents sides can be traced back to Normandy, however my dads side has always been from Normandy, whereas due to the name on my mom's side, I'm pretty sure the bloodline can be traced back to Germany.
Both sides were French colonists who settled in Acadia (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, P.E.I., etc.). However, the British came in during the French and Indian War and deported 11,500 of the 14,100 Acadians (known as the great expulsion or "Le Grand Dérangement"). Both sides of my family were expelled to Louisiana.
Dad's side: I honestly don't know much about. I know we come from Scottish decent, my last name is actually one of the Scottish clans but I don't know if we're from a clan or not. My grandfather is actually writing a book on our family's history but I haven't read it. I'll have to read over the draft he sent us sometime.
I do however know that my great grandfather was in World War I and was shot in the leg which meant he was wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.
Someone named their child George Washington Preston but they died when they were still a baby.
Mum's side: On my mum's side we come from all over the place. England, Scotland, Ireland, Greece, France, Switzerland and probably some other countries I can't remember.
One of my ancestors was the first Greek-Australian, his name was Ghikas Boulgaris, a greek freedom fighter during the Hellanic War of Independence from Hydra, aboard a ship called Hercules. They intercepted a British brig called Alceste off the coast of Libya and stole some of their cargo. They were later intercepted by the HMS Cygnet and taken to Malta for trial. They were found guilty of piracy. He arrived in Australia aboard the ship, Norfolk. He later became a shepard and married an Irishwoman named Mary Lyons, and also bought some land and named it Ando.
My great grandfather was a Gunner (British and Australian equivalent of a Private) in World War II. He fought against the Japanese and never spoke about the war. My grandfather was conscripted for the war in Vietnam but was able to get out of it for medical reasons.
I'm 50% Polish (all from my Mom's Side), and on my Dad's side, I'm English, Irish, Romanian, Czech, and Slovakian.
From what my parents have told me:
Dad's side: French, Italian, Old English
Mom's side: Portuguese, Scottish, Polish, Swedish, Dutch, German, Irish, somewhere in there Native American "Indian" Got involved.
All I know of is that my great-grandfather was a full-blood Scot. :v:
My ancestor build a school where there were no school there before, and teach in it.
My dad's uncle does a lot of family research and apparently somewhere 5 generations back I have Italian ancestry on my grandmothers side. Further back there's traces of Romanian descent. The vast majority of it all is Scandinavian though, mostly Swedish but also some Danish.
A lot of my family stemmed from southern Sweden, which was once Danish soil until somewhere in the 1600s, where after many many bloody battles with the Danish it was finally signed as Swedish property.
That said we were for the most part farmers. There's some blue blood in there, very upper class. Dukes and friends of the monarchy. v:v:v
I have no slav in me, and I have ancestors who were on the Mayflower.
I have ancestors who were fishermen at the time of the mayflower, in Plymouth (England) so were probably there when it sailed.
Hi, I was born here in the Philippines. According to my mom, there was Spanish blood in our ancestry. I believe it to both on my grandmother and my grandfather's side. While my husband, has racial make-up which contains a partial Japanese ancestry.
15% Norman, so therefore slightly Norse. I have English blood and I'm related to a Celtic sea god.
Father's side; Scots and Prussians. A lot of this side were criminals; cattle thieves and hitmen who operated a bit like the ye olde Mafia.
Mother's side; Italians/Germans and Scots with living German relatives.
I don't know my ancestry past my grandparents. Thinking of doing one of them DNA tests, anyone tried them?
My grandparents are all from western region of Lithuania, my mothers side of the family all have signature dark skin so I'm thinking there's some Mediterranean/eastern blood in me.
1/4096 Blackfoot
Father is Ecuadorian and mother is Finnish.
Am apparently related to the first president of Ecuador, but not sure if that holds any truth, as the surname is quite common.
