Afrikaans-language newspaper Beeld is reporting he mistook the woman, his girlfriend of a year, for a burglar to his Pretoria home.

SOURCE: http://www.theage.com.au/sport/oscar-pistorius-shot-girlfriend-report-20130214-2efj6.html

looks like he really got pist off
That's horrible :< Understandable in Pretoria though. My friend was born and lived there most of his life, and his relatives' houses there now need to be surrounded by barbed wire fences and concrete pillars for security. When he went there last in 2008, their neighbor's house was robbed in front of them by men who looked like a moving company (hence why they didn't say anything). As a whole, South Africa is still a very shady place sometimes. You can't go outside after dark in most places still if you value your life.
Assuming the report is correct, what a tragic accident [editline]b[/editline] Not sure how anyone can rate that funny
his name fits
remind me never to prank him
Oscar's girlfriend's last tweet Seriously though. This is unfortunate. Oscar is one of my top athletic heroes, even before his Olympic debut. It's sad for his career to crumble down so quickly.
South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world. Looking into a map that displays crime rates in South Africa, Pretoria is in red, which indicates an 80 to 100 percent crime rate. It would not be strange for residents in the area to keep weapons against possible home invasions.
http://www.flotrack.org/article/18330-Oscar-Pistorius-Arrested-in-South-Africa
He's been charged with murder, looks like it may not have been accidental
Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder over the shooting death of his model girlfriend. Maybe she was a replicant?

Roses are red, violets are glorious. Don't sneak up on Oscar Pistorius
The police have basically said 'we don't know what all this burglary/mistake shit is'
Does anyone else think this may have been accidental?
Aw for fucks sake come ON. This guy was so damn inspirational during the games, and seemed like a prospect for double amputees. I guess not.
Everyone here in SA was kind of in disbelief about it this morning. Oscar is known as a nice guy and he's kind of a national hero. This happened a while ago as well where a rugby player (I think) killed his daughter by accident, thinking it was someone breaking in. Burglars don't fuck around here, and many people have the whole "shoot first ask questions later" mentality when it comes to people breaking in.
did this happen IN south africa? They have a massive queue for court cases last time I checked, so it could be a while before anything like that happens. Don't hold me to that though, it was a while since I looked.

The charges are gonna cost him a leg
He deserves to go to jail for that. You don't just shoot someone because you think they're breaking in. Edit: So he shot her 2 or 4 times? Yeah, doesn't sound like a mistake to me.
Hmmm, shot 4 times. It does sound suspicious though......
The details are very sketchy at the moment, talks are that he's appearing in court tomorrow, people are saying he shot his girlfriend twice, some say four times, things aren't clear at this stage, although it is known that he has had some history of being an aggressive individual, still sucks to see a hero like him go to the gutters like this, it's extremely sad for a lot of people in and outside of South Africa.
For the first time in human history; a person has been killed by a cyborg.
this story made me weak at the knees

He got out of bed, took his 7.65mm pistol, and fired a shot through the bedroom window, police said. When he went outside he discovered his daughter slumped behind the wheel.
I cant imagine how either of them would feel, and now Oscars still got a court case to go through

and so begins the war of the machines I heard this on the radio and it seemed real weird, I remember seeing this guy and hearing all about how inspirational he was and it's like, OJ simpson or something

maybe he wanted to kill his wife but didn't want to face the consequences of murder so he played it along as an accident
that's actually really sad because i'm pretty sure pistorius' condition made him quite an inspiring figure to many disabled or ill people in the world. i got to see a conference held by charles rozoy and it's pretty uplifting stuff, really.
Anyone find it creepy that social networking sites are eventually going to be full of dead people that will need to be cleaned out. Kind of freaks me out that you can look into her last conversations and stuff. RIP though, wonder what really happened?
