That is not a Christian: that’s a pagan!”
SHOTS FIRED :v:
if you really want to get into it then just about everything about christmas is pagan :v:
if you really want to get into it then just about everything about christmas is pagan :v:
What about the giving of gifts? Feeding the hungry, helping the poor and all that?
What about the giving of gifts? Feeding the hungry, helping the poor and all that?
It was actually implemented during attempts to convert Norse pagans to Christianity. Similar to Easter being decided by an old Celtic pagan ritual, or tatooes being sinful to help rally the newly converted Romans against the Celtic pagans.
There're also the many eerie parallels to Saturnalia.
What about the giving of gifts? Feeding the hungry, helping the poor and all that?
You heathen
What about the giving of gifts? Feeding the hungry, helping the poor and all that?
gift giving came from the roman celebration of Saturnalia. feeding the hungry, helping the poor and all that is called being human and shouldn't generally ever be associated with just one day, but rather practiced always :v:

Though with the proximity of this date to Christmas and the fact that the Christian Church grew up around the Roman Empire, I think it's safe to say this particular event was a good inspiration for it.
I thought the taboo against tattoos came from a Jewish ban against marking or branding one's flesh.
That too. But when Christianity became the state religion of Rome, they were still under heavy assaults by the Celtic tribes, whom were often tattooed. By stating tattooes were sinful, they were attempting to rile up religious fervor in the community. And then the Germans happened.

This episode is a bit old, so the QI Elves' facts may be stale by now.
If I'm vain and proud and science is my god, what does that make me, Francis?
If I'm vain and proud and science is my god, what does that make me, Francis?
Euphoric.
If I'm vain and proud and science is my god, what does that make me, Francis?
A dickhead.
If I'm vain and proud and science is my god, what does that make me, Francis?
Fedorable. But really how does one put a "religious faith" in Science

Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
Reddit, of course.
Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
Never seen one of those "enlightned by my own inteligence" posts?
Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
Pictures like this [t]http://0-media-cdn.foolz.us/ffuuka/board/q/image/1374/87/1374878951576.jpg[/t] pretty much all of which are fake, too.
Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
I don't even know if he's an atheist, it's just that the "I heart Neil Degrass/Sagan/Dawkins. Science is my religion." is so indicative of r/atheism
Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh are really pissed now.
Damn right I'm a pagan bastard.
I just practice this today, at work, a friend forgot to get some quarters, I've gave him a quarter so he can get something off the vending machice, both of us are poor anyways.
Where does this atheist = fedora shit come from?
A lot of "militant atheists" think very highly of their own intelligence over theists and acts very edgy and condescending, most of militant atheists are teenage nerds and neckbeards, and /r/atheism was a very popular place for militant atheists to circlejerk. Fedoras for some reason started being a trend because people think wearing a formal hat would make them look cool and stylish even without formal clothes, in reality you just end up having a lot of nerds and neckbeards walking around with fedoras thinking they're smart and cool as hell. Jokes about them became a meme, and as more people realize fedoras don't make them cool the meme become less and less relevant.

I know the context you mean it but I don't think the Reddit stereotype is comparable to certain militant theists in the world. Maybe I'm thinking too far into it
I thought the Pope shits in the woods?
"...it means that to be like Him, we do not have to place ourselves above others, but come down, come down and server them, become small among the small and poor among the poor. It's a bad thing when one sees a Christian that does not want to come down, a Christian that uses everything to show off."
I'm really starting to like this new Pope.
