The software giant said it would support IE6 until 2014 - four years beyond the original deadline. Critics - some of which have started an online campaign - want the eight-year-old browser mothballed because they claim it slows the online experience. "Friends do not let friends use IE6," said Amy Barzdukas, Microsoft's general manager for Internet Explorer. "If you are in my social set and I have been to your house for dinner, you are not using IE6," she said. "But it is much more complicated when you move into a business setting." "It's hard to be cavalier in this economy and say 'oh it's been around for so long they need to upgrade,'" Ms Barzdukas told journalists in San Francisco.. Web monitoring firms estimate that 15-20% of people still use IE6 to browse the web. Enough is enough Among those speaking out against IE6 is a group of more than 70 developers who have banded together to form a project called ie6nomore. "Enough is enough," they implore on their website. Justin.tv Justin.tv says its amazed at how the anti IE6 campaign has taken off "Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 was released in late 2001. For its time, it was a decent browser, but in 2009, it is still in use by a significant portion of the web population, and its time is now up." "Web developers hate IE6," said Evan Solomon of Justin.tv, one of the backers of the campaign. "We are passionate because we run a website and something like 10% of our users use IE6, but our web designers and developers have to spend a lot of time debugging for the platform.
What the fuck, Microsoft... What the fuck?
Internet Explorer... What a fucking joke. Give this post negative ratings if you think Miscrosoft is dumb.
You'd be surprised how many people use it, or how many school computers it's installed on.
My mother still uses it and so do a lot of non-computer savvy people and it's really not that horrible because it does what it needs to Facepunch is a bunch of nerds so I'll expect dumb ratings
GOD DAMNIT! I work as a web programmer, and IE6 is the only thing I hate about my job. I started charging clients extra-fees for support of IE6. It has to go down. Right. Now. Not in 2014 for the love of god, NOW!
Well I am sure web-developers will universally abandon working with IE6 in mind.

Microsoft need to stop supporting their old shit, especially seeing only a small minority still use it. They should just make it mandatory that they have to upgrade to the new IE.
In other news: Internet Explorer still sucks. Badly. Firefox still wins.
In other news: Internet Explorer still sucks. Badly. Firefox still wins.
Don't turn this into a flamewar. This is about IE6, not IE in general.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8196242.stm <--Wall 'o Text--> What the fuck, Microsoft... What the fuck?
Microsoft :ramsay:, most schools and businesses are dumping IE6 for IE7/IE8 and most sites are terminating all IE6 support. Just pull the fucking plug already :effort:.
How do you flame over internet browsers? Really.
FUCKING FIREFOX SUCKS, OPERA RULES NO IT DOESN'T WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE AN IDIOT YES IT DOES ACTUALLY YOU'RE BOTH DUMB CUNTS, CHROME IS BETTER THAN BOTH OF THEM. Like that.
How do you flame over internet browsers? Really.
you'd be fucking suprised
And then in 2013 they extend the support until 2020 because people will still be using it.
Holy shit IE6 god damn nostalgia.
FUCK YOU, MICROSOFT! I hope that a large majority web developers take a stand against this and flat-out refuse to work on that piece-of-shit browser that quite frankly, can fuck right off.

Wow. Really? Microsoft has hit an all-time low. IE6 has more security holes than I care to count, is virtually featureless, and has no idea what the phrase 'web standards' means. It needs to die. Not in 5 years. But NOW! Rate this post as if it were M$ right now. (before you call me an apple fanboy, FYI: I hate apple more)
FOR PETE'S SAKE USE OPERA OR FIREFOX, Forget IE6.
IE6 was soo 5 years ago.
Laaaaaaaaaaaaame
You'd be surprised how many people use it, or how many school computers it's installed on.
That's because you can't really get rid of it (or any other IE) in most Windows versions :v:
You'd be surprised how many people use it, or how many school computers it's installed on.
We have to use it on our work computers. I installed Firefox and Chrome but they fuckin' removed it and blocked us from installing programs.
IE6 was soo 5 years ago.
more like 8 years ago [editline]01:27PM[/editline] If I had a disease that'd kill me in 5 years then I'd use those 5 years to completely destroy IE6 to make the lives of other web developers a hell of a lot easier
Wow.. I6 is so old now.. Man, why cant they just kill old stuff.... Not revive it.. Let it die.. I hate when i go from like FF or Ie8 to like ie7 or ie 6 its a whole difference experience.
Not surprised really, a lot of large businesses and educational institutions including most UK colleges and universities all refuse to upgrade to IE7 or IE8 for some reason. I guess these institutions have plugged a lot of holes since release with their security policies and such but still, why fucking IE6? Why? I could live with IE7 or IE8, at least they have tabs.
Stuff like this really annoys me. I had to fix up a laptop for a family member and while I can accept them liking Office 2003 over the Ribbon UI, it pained me severely to leave IE6 on there simply because they'd bitch and moan until I took whatever I put on, off because it was "WAH DIFFERENT, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING AND WE'RE TOO OLD FOR CHANGE".
Even my school uses IE7.
