• Google's Going to Start Sticking Your Face and Name in Ads
This was bound to happen. Following Facebook's highly controversial attempts to make social endorsements ubiquitous on the site, Google just announced a Terms of Service update that will enable the company to use your name, photo and endorsements in its advertising network. So how does that make you feel? Google obviously wants you to feel okay about the changes. The company assured users in its announcement blog post, "On Google, you're in control of what you share." (Emphasis Google's) And that's technically true. You can opt out of the face-flaunting new feature through this settings page in Google+, but if you don't do anything, Google says it will use your information without explicit consent. Ugh. Doing anything from leaving a YouTube comment to starring something in Google Play to giving it the +1 treatment will cause your face to show up on ads. (Users under 18, however, will not appear in ads.) Google is also somewhat vague about who will see your face: "So your friends, family and others may see your Profile name and photo, and content like the reviews you share or the ads you +1'd." Facebook, however, is less vague: "If you have selected a specific audience for your content or information, we will respect your choice when we use it."
http://gizmodo.com/googles-going-to-start-sticking-your-face-and-name-in-1443861985?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_facebook&utm_source=gizmodo_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
Time to remove any personal information from my Google account, then
I am officially scared now.

Facebook, however, is less vague: "If you have selected a specific audience for your content or information, we will respect your choice when we use it."
So basically they won't ACTUALLY put your face in public ads unless you exclusively let them - only friends and family get it. So then there's no problem. SENSATIONALIST HEADLINE STRIKES AGAIN
Adblock plus couldn't care
this is a bigger joke than google+
I could imagine how insulting it would be. Have zits all over your face? Here's some advertisements for acme cream and cheap fedoras
You can opt out jeez. But I do agree that it's pretty bad when it's on by default
Uh, this only applies to people in your circles. If you publicly announce that you like something via a review or +1 then if someone who knows you looks at it - it will mention that fact. Gizmodo demonstrating it's wonderful bullshit skills again.
I love that my facebook is years old and has no purpose for me and everything else has no actual content that relates to me other then it being mine.
wow fuck this, I don't want my name used to sell other peoples bullshit
people use google+ ????
Someone make goatse his profile picture.
I could imagine how insulting it would be. Have zits all over your face? Here's some advertisements for acme cream and cheap fedoras
Acme cream would probably explode, no one buys it but coyotes these days.

It is opt-out and users under 18 won't get shown in ads so facepunch is covered
Time to remove any personal information from my Google account, then
Or just go into your settings and opt out
Or just go into your settings and opt out
As if they wouldn't collect the data anyway
Even tho its opt-out, the fact its defaulted on and they are doing this is fucking terrible whatever happened to "Don't be evil."
people use google+ ????
It's growing very rapidly, especially as Google has all their services tied together.
actually google, you're not fuck off
"Do no evil." My ass. Google is a CORPORATION. Of course they do evil.
Even tho its opt-out, the fact its defaulted on and they are doing this is fucking terrible whatever happened to "Don't be evil."
If you actually read into this at all, or read the thread, you'd know it only shows up for people in your circles showing that you +1'd/shared/whatever'd something. Facebook has been doing this for ages. [editline]11th October 2013[/editline]
"Do no evil." My ass. Google is a CORPORATION. Of course they do evil.
And you.
It's growing very rapidly, especially as Google has all their services tied together.
Most of the 'growing' is probably just caused by Google forcing Google+ down peoples throats through Youtube and whatnot.
It's growing very rapidly, especially as Google has all their services tied together.
only because of google forcefully making you make a google+ page for your YouTube channel, if you've got a google account you have a g+ account, but there isnt much people using it
Whether or not you opt out, they can't display you in ads if they don't know you're there.
"Do no evil." My ass. Google is a CORPORATION. Of course they do evil.
"I can relate"
