• Persistent Malware won't leave computer (HELP!!)

I don't know how, but somehow I got browser redirect malware or something. Earlier on chrome every 10 minutes Or so I get redirected to a stupid site. I have ads everywhere. I have run AVG full internet security, JRT, Malwarebytes Anti Malware, Hitman pro, JRT. I have run a million full computer scans. Altho the adware is out, I still get redirects on chrome. I decided to uninstall chrome backing up my bookmarks. I used Firefox and I did not Get any redirects. This morning when I log in, I get redirects with fire fox now. How do I get rid of this? How do I make sure my computer is safe before making any purchases on steam? I've run out of options. I've even used anti root kits. Help please! Thanks, Commandhat.
Make sure there are no odd extensions. Also right click on the shortcut->properties. Look at target. If there's anything after the initial .exe directory, delete it. Make sure the "Start in" box is the proper directory too.
Yes everything is correct. What do I do?
Also my performance has gone down terribly. CS:GO seems to lag and crash. How do i fix all these?
If you're able to do so, the easiest surefire way of getting rid of it would be to back up any important files and reinstall Windows
If you're able to do so, the easiest surefire way of getting rid of it would be to back up any important files and reinstall Windows
So manually back up stuff like steam and other important stuff, then re install windows? I have an iMac with bootcamp, using windows. I was going to install windows 8.1 pro over it. Will that fix the problem or a complete re install will?
You should do a complete reinstall, just to be sure that no old files will remain.
Ok will do so, i will let you know the results by tommorrow
Reinstalling worked, thanks. close this :)
