It was only a few days ago that AT&T instituted the data caps on their broadband connections, but speaking on the situation, AT&T's Mark Siegel proclaimed that it is what the end user had asked for and referred to the capping as "generous".
While it is hard to believe that any customer would ask for their unlimited connection to be capped and then forced to pay if they go over the limit, that is exactly what AT&T is claiming. They state that customer feedback, according to CNN, cited that users wanted the individuals that consume the most to pay more. AT&T states:
"Our approach is based on customers' feedback," said Mark Siegel, spokesman for AT&T. "They told us that the people who use the most should pay more, and they also told us we should make it easy for them to track their usage. We think our approach addresses these concerns."
What is not known how the information was communicated to AT&T, specifically, what question did they pose to gain such feedback. If they sent out a survey that asked, "Do you believe that the top 2% of broadband users should pay more than the remaining 98%" then of course you will hear consumers ask for higher premium to that demographic.
Further, if AT&T were truly worried about their broadband being overrun by heavy downloading, why aren't consumers using under the cap being rewarded for their efforts or, at minimum, given "rollover" data as they do with their cellular service. AT&T needs to be honest and call the caps what it is, a tax on users to pad their bottom line. While that will never happen, they are trying to cover it up by saying users requested the data caps.
Riiight.
"Our customers want to pay us to provide a much worse service"
Who doesn't enjoy paying more? I mean, logically speaking, if you pay more it has to be better. I mean it would just be silly otherwise.
Like the article mentioned, AT&T probably sent out a survey with misleading questions, and used that as a basis for their caps.
Already in progress to switch ISPs
Totally legit feedback everyone wanted this.
Uh huh. More like some accountant figured out they could limit traffic, extort more money from users, and pocket the profit instead of reinvesting in their infrastructure.
Oh, also they all want to torpedo Hulu and Netflix for making their cable service obsolete.
Yeah right. I would PREFER to have my service either shut off or outrageously over priced if I hit a certain limit of bandwidth usage. YES PLEASE Sign me up!
dear at&t
you pioneered the two way street approach to business
and now you're pulling this shit
stop it
Like fuck I did.
lol there was an AT&T sales man at my door yesterday, he wouldn't leave despite me telling him TWICE that I wasn't interested.
Glad I got out of AT&T.
I have AT&T, I'm waiting for my next bill to see what happens, but honestly

That is a great idea.
Time Warner Cable for the win
It's the same defense as "She asked to be raped up the butt"
I've said this before and I'll say it again:
Fuck AT&T. Possibly one of the worst phone/internet providers out there. How the hell do these asshats manage to stay in business is what I'd like to know.
Already in progress to switch ISPs
Already in progress to switch countries. :sweden:
Now they sound like Bobby Kotick, putting false words in our mouths. "Our customers want a subscription based Call of Duty!"
God dang it, ATT.
Oh well, I steal my neighbor's comcast whenever I download anything anyway.

I use Windstream for internet but I have to use AT&T for a phone service because I drop most calls with EVERY service except for them
We must do something guys, I'm tired of this bullshit.
if FIOS was in my area, we wouldn't even have AT&T and their shitty service
Even though Comcast has some pretty bad decisions sometimes, I'm glad they haven't added Data Caps yet[Meaning low data caps].
250GB data cap they have
I fixed it, but yeah... As much as I hate Data Caps, I can't imagine how someone can go over 250GB.

My Steam folder's over 400GB, that'd break the cap.

I'm blowing your imagination on a monthly basis then :v:

Maybe don't format and re-install all your games every month?
