Need help choosing a laptop for general use and gaming

I recently moved from my parents home to a one-room occupancy in order to attend university and I find myself in need of a better laptop. I am currently stuck with a 4 year old Vostro 3300 I got for free when starting High-School and as a computer-science student I feel I need something a little more powerful for academic use, while I also want to use it on the side for some gaming(my current one has issues running some indie 2d games).
Buying a new laptop just for academic use would be pretty easy, but I am more worried about the gaming part. I do not expect much from the new system, but preferably that it can run DOTA2 on at least the lowest setting possible(which my current laptop can almost do).
My budget is flexible but I would rather not go beyond 750 usd. I live in Norway which makes international shipping difficult. For that reason I really only want laptop suggestions and not retailer, unless it ships internationally.
Again I wish to say that I do not expect much from the system in terms of gaming, and I don't expect it to run future games as I have a modern system at home. This is really only for recreational use and not hardcore, high fidelity gaming. For reference my Vostro 3300 has Intel HD Graphics and not some NVidia card .
where do you live?
You're not getting as much performance, but you're getting a bit of quality. You can go with a Acer whatever if that's what you want to though.

If you want to do gaming, I would recommend you get a Y510p beast - that is definetly over your budget though.
IMO, I would spend more money on a laptop tbh. You're probaly gonna have it for quite some time, and dealing with performance annoyances with a new laptop is always a pain in the ass.
