I am thinking about starting work on my 88' Crown vic that has rust spots along the drivers side of the car and some minor stuff along the passenger side. I REALLY do not want to bring this thing into a professional since i dont have the money for it and, whats better then working on your own car. Its a full metal body so it shouldnt be [i] extremely[\i] hard to work on. So, i have some questions: 1 - Where do I start 2 - Grind the current rust off? then treat? 3 - Treatment? How should i go about this... or someone have a good DIY link since I could not find anythin
if the rust is not too deep then you might be able to just grind it off, but if it's deep or there are holes, you have to cut it out and weld in a replacement panel of metal
Yuppp. Post some pics. I had a guy go "I want you to paint my car.. the rust isn't bad, should be easy to fix." Then I saw it and the rockers were gone, holes on every door, front of the hood rotted out. We can let you know if it's worth it to fix/ what's the best way.. replace door skins, cut and weld, etc.

Just remember bubbles in paint come from the metal behind.. and the only way to come from behind is to rust completely from the back side of the metal. But yea, we'll see

That rust does not look to large... It's what you don't see would be what I'm afraid of. Just grind the damn rust out and praypaint over it, to seal it.
Wash it very well before you paint it though, after you've grinded it down
That rust does look large.. Hit it with a grinder and see what you end up with when you get down to bare metal.. a lot of those are probably holes once you knock them down. If you can weld, certainly cut out and weld in new metal in the hole portions.

Kepp in mind though this car is 23 years old, it should have been dead ten years ago. I just want it to look moderately better then what it is now.
If you start knocking the rust out they most likely will turn into hole status. Give it a shot... worst thing you end up with is holes in the door and bare metal. Make sure to seal the bar metal with something while you're not working on it if you're driving it. Just rattle can garbage you can keep knocking off will work.

Mehhhh, then slap some white spray paint on it and call it a day :( Happned to my daily beater.. fixed some body rust and stuff, but the underside has some structural rust, so it'll die eventually. Boo.
someone make a nice tutorial with pictures and stuff ;)
