Hello. I want to get a new graphics card since my current one is apparently underperforming compared to the rest of my system. The graphics card in question is a Nvidia GeForce 9500 GS which according to DxDiag has 1907mb in memory, whatever that means. The rest of the computer is: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 2.33GHz 4 gigabytes of RAM That's all I know, sorry for not providing so much info, I'm a novice at this stuff. So, is there anything out there that matches my computer?
Whats Your Budget?
Whats Your Budget?
Oh right I forgot to mention that, sorry. I'm willing to spend about 200$
4 gigabytes of RAM memory
I lol'd Well, for $190 you could get a 4890 or for $215 you could get a GTX275 I'd personally go for the 4890. If I remember correctly, they are pretty similar performance wise. Also, what is your PSU?
It is critical that you first ensure your power supply is up to the task before rushing out and buy a 4890 / 275. What is it? (unplug PC, pull side panel off and check). Buddie:
4 gigabytes of RAM memory

I lol'd
RAM = random access memory RAM memory = random access memory memory
Go with the 4890/275 they both have very similar performance, the 4890 is a bit cheaper though. But first give us your power supply,
I corrected that typo, didn't realize what I said :buddy: Also, it's a 400 watt power supply
I corrected that typo, didn't realize what I said :buddy: Also, it's a 400 watt power supply
BudieBBB what brand is it? Ampers on the rails?
BudieBBB what brand is it? Ampers on the rails?
I have no idea what that is
Have a look at the label on the side of the power supply and see if you can give us some more info from there.
Get an ATI 4850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150351 It'll be fine on a 400 watt, but I recommend upgrading to a 500
Well if he upgrades to a 500W he may as well get a 4870/4890/275/260-216
4850 or 4830 on that psu.
4770
I can't really tell what my Power Supply is, but according to my manual it has these specs: Size: ATX Voltage: 220 - 240 V Frequency: 50 -60 hz Max output: 400watt
You might just want to get a more powerful PSU before a GPU
4830 for sure because of the psu
4770 because it has low power draw
like what JohnEdwards said, get the 4770. it's a good card and you won't need to get a new psu. thus saving you some money.
This is probably sounding stupid but what differs it from my current one?
A lot. You will notice a major difference in graphics oriented applications.
A lot. You will notice a major difference in graphics oriented applications.
Il go for that 4770 then. Thanks for all the advice
