Windows decides my copy isn't cool with them anymore; deletes everything I own

Literally. I mean, without warning. I get the message "This Pre-Release copy of Windows has expired. Please install a new version."
Everything I have is GONE. All my files for work, all my pictures of me and my family, all the information I've collected over the course of several years... even my Deus Ex saves.
I am honestly considering taking my Bushmaster AR-10 and some firebombs to a nearby Microsoft corporate office and slaughtering everyone inside without mercy.
it would be easier to like crash a plane into one
Shouldn't have had the pre-release copy bro.
You should've gotten a copy of Windows 7 earlier.
What the fuck?
That doesn't sound right. I thought Microsoft clearly said that no data will be affected due to the anti-piracy updates/betas/etc.

What, I can't really make sense of what you described. Microsoft deleted everything by Email because you didn't install their newer version after you got a Pre-Release.
This may sound heartless, but I think this is could be your fault.
Ring up Microsoft and give 'em hell.
i find it hard to believe that microsoft actually made a program that would format a hard drive after the timer expires. at worst, i'd think it would just lock windows so you can't use the computer, and in that case you can just put the hard drive as a storage drive in another computer and copy your files off.
edit: upon googling, the only thing i read about this sort of thing was that betas of operating systems often have glitches that will assrape/delete all of your files. in that case, it's really all on you...
Use data recovery as quick as possible.
damn, even your deus ex saves
I'm assuming you're using RC, if so, you're over reacting. All RC is going to do is shut down every 3 hours until you buy a retail copy, and then in June it's going to go down completely. Even then it's not a meltdown, more of a "fuck you no desktop until you buy Windows 7".
Just get on another computer, pop in the hard drive as a secondary, copy the important stuff, and then you're good to go.
To be fair, they did give warning.

Lesson 1 of Data: Make backups. Make backups of those backups. Expect the unexpected.

It's not your copy, that's why. Microsoft own the software, they have just let you try it out.
I haven't seen anything about deleting files, just bi-hourly shutdowns and all that jazz
Oh well, off to buy overpriced mac computer.

Yeah, I was using the Windows 7 Ultimate RC when they sent me an email and prompted me daily.
Now I'm running on Windows 7 Home Premium. :D

I love doing these fresh OS installations, everything feels so, "new," and, "clean."
It gives a warning each day starting from 13 days before, on the exact same time it displays a warning that it will expire.
i lost all my porn when that happened, i was so pissed off
What do you want us to do about it? It's a trial copy, 7 has been out for...4 months at least, can't remember specifically. Did you think Microsoft would just let you use their software for free?
Take the old harddrive out, put in new master harddrive, put old harddrive as slave, load new operating system and recover the data.
Where is the emote with a dog with shades saying "deal with it"?
well my pre realease copy of Windows 7 has been giving me warnings for about a month now, and it expires in 3 days, so I'm going to be a good boy and go out and buy windows 7 and install it.
My copy I ordered isn't going to come in until after march 1st :c
Disconnect yourself from the net and change the date on your computer to January or something. Would that work?
