Gigabyte releases "On/Off Charge" update - USB Charging even if your PC is off.
There's no denying that the Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch have been a huge success and many of you may own one. However, both devices suffer from one small problem, they don't charge very fast when connected to your PC. Wouldn't it be great if your iPhone charged just as quickly from your computer as it does from the charger?
GIGABYTE's latest motherboards are equipped with ON/OFF Charge technology which allows you not only to charge your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, but it allows you to Quick Charge it. As an added bonus, it can even be charged when your PC is turned off, so even if you forget to plug it into your charger after you've synced up your music, it will be fully charged when you need it.
Based on GIGABYTE's unparalleled 3x USB power boost design, plus an entirely new hardware design, GIGABYTE ON/OFF Charge Technology provides a set of white and red colored USB pin headers that can easily be connected to your system's front USB 2.0 ports, that not only act as a normal USB port, but also double as a quick charge ports for your mobile device. It doesn't matter if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is
plugged into the quick charge USB port while the system is turned on, in sleep/standby mode, or even turned off, as it always enables you to charge your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
Personally, I think this is a great idea, as I like to charge my iPod touch but I hate having to leave my PC on to charge it.
It seems useful, if you don't own a device that already allows offline charging, such as a Wii or whatnot.
-snip, had to read it twice-
Quite useful
Wait, I don't understand how they get the power. The clock battery?
The USB ports are probably told to always receive power from the power supply. Kind of like how your ethernet port always recieves power.
That's nothing new. My MSI board also has a feature to keep the USB ports on.
What's annoying though is that the peripherals attached like the wireless receiver still light up.
Useful,
Though I own an Ipod dock, so I can listen to music in my room while it charges. But this would be great for other, or me if it had been released 6 months ago
Works great for me.
Thats cool and all but the part that gets me is
"As an added bonus, it can even be charged when your PC is turned off"
Who turns their computer off, really.
/slight sarcasm
It can be useful but extremely annoying seeing your mouses led's always on.

I only turn my off like once a month, and that's because I install some windows update that doesn't do anything but still wants you to reboot
So this only works for gigabyte boards?
I've been able to charge USB devices in my computer while its off for as long as I can remember having my own computer, so this isn't news to me at all.
I've always wanted this on my laptop, but I normally just put it to sleep when I travel with it so I charge off that.
Why can't they do this for the P35 boards? In fact, my P35-DS3P supplies power to the USB ports while it's off, but my iPod won't charge from them unless I turn the PC on, plug in the iPod and then turn it off.
Damn, Asus needs to get its shit together and do something like this.
Sweet. Thanks for the info, OP.
I can already charge some of my devices while my computer is off, but it's still a great idea anyway.
By off does this mean off off or sleep off

Off off.
Off off.
Awesome. I hope Asus will/can do the same.

I do... But I'm just scared my PSU will explode, and nobody is in this room at the time and then bye bye house.
I can already do this with my gigabyte motherboard for some reason?
woo, I have one from the p55 gigabyte series
this will be very useful for me
