I can't decide whether this episode or 6 was my favourite Really enjoyed the whole season
This episode was great because it wasn't full of lame jump scares, it was legit disturbing what technology did to that man, their just isn't enough of that kind of horror today.
This was one of my favourite episodes, I'm so glad I kept on through because I thought the first episode was perhaps the weakest episode of Black Mirror yet. I get why everyone was so 'omg it was sooo good' but tbh it felt Hollywoody and on the nose, which wasn't quite right for Black Mirror. I mean everything was 100% predictable, and there was no subtlety whatsoever. But Playtest sold me and confirmed it was Black Mirror I was watching, it was some really great psychological horror and an interesting path to take with the whole VR/AR concept. I loved the [sp]nod it made to Bioshock, it felt respectful, like the writers saying "yeah I know what I'm doing don't worry"[/sp].
Shit up my nose that was good. I'd never heard of this show but I'm gonna have to check it out now.
I read this thread two days ago and thought i would give this season a try, holy fucking shit that episode was really good. [sp]I mean fucking shit, the ending was just brilliant, so clever. And the whole thing feels logical, he's been avoiding calling his mother for so long and not having coped with his dad dissappearing just made him too mentally unstable for the play test. just one simple explanation of many at least[/sp]
Only seen the first two episodes of the season so far, second one was definitely better but I don't get the praise for the ending. [sp] The multiple fakeouts thing was to be expected and although it was a bit spooky everything was ultimately predictable. Would have preferred an ending where the dude can't even tell whether he's in reality anymore, the phone call disruption with the two plane scenes before felt more like a cheap chekov's gun than any sort of clever twist [/sp] Heard the season gets better though, definitely not feeling it as much as the previous two so far.
