Good game, Mr. Hagel.
Never heard of this Hagel dude, who is he? Senator?

I don't expect "country x's military" to act in the interest of any country other than "country x," and expecting otherwise is at best naive and at worst stupid. A nation's military is a diplomatic tool used to leverage influence its position on the world stage, either as offensive projection of power or as a defense against other militaries. It may have secondary functions like disaster recovery and community outreach, but that is not the reason the military exists. I mean shit just read any mission statement of any military from any nation, and they'll read generally the same: Defend our people, defend our nation's interests, follow the directives of our elected officials.
-snip fuck I can't read-

Also don't trust RT, they're a propaganda ministry, not a news network.
Isn't RT a banned source on SH?

He was one of the most vocal critics of the Bush Administration's invasion of Iraq, consistently pushed against all the troop surges, and referred to our involvement in Iraq as the modern Vietnam. Oh-- and he's repeatedly asserted that the decline of our military presence around the world is a good thing because it forces other countries to look after themselves and their own affairs. Speaking of which, as far as Vietnam goes:
Hagel volunteered to be drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, rejecting a draft board recommendation that he go to college instead.[17] He served in the United States Army infantry in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. As a Sergeant (E-5), he served as an infantry squad leader in the 9th Infantry Division.[18] Hagel served in the same infantry squad as his younger brother Tom, and they are thought to be the only American brothers to do so during the Vietnam War.[19] They also saved each other's lives on separate occasions.[19] Hagel received the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.[20]
