Hi, I am looking for a new mouse. My current mouse is a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical. Not the v1.1 or the v1.1a, it's the 1.0. It came out 10 years ago and my uncle got it like 6-8 years ago or so. It's 400 dpi, 125Hz Pooling and it can only handle 50 cm/second before it twitches up or down and fails. And it's stained yellow due to years of gaming and use. So, I need a new mouse. I bring it to school n stuff (because the school mice sucks *Dell mouse shit* and I enjoy using the side buttons on it. And it has to be good and I mainly play FPS games. It should have a on-the-fly dpi change too! Criteria: I guess it should be laser side buttons!!!!! on the fly sensitivity dpi chaniging would be nice too (so i can do 1080 degree spins for fun) since i bring my mouse to places, it should have on-board memory unless you can change the dpi on the mouse, driver-less. good tracking - ima low-medium sens fps gamer and i often flick my mouse a lot on low sens. wired! screw wireless light weight btw, im right handed Thanks!
There is no alternative. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104318&cm_re=logitech_mouse-_-26-104-318-_-Product
MX518
G500

MX518
Thread is now officially over. People suggesting mice other then those two will be spammed with disagrees.
Thread is now officially over. People suggesting mice other then those two will be spammed with disagrees.
As an owner of both an MX518 and my CM Storm Sentinel, I don't care what people say about it, but I love the Sentinel more than I ever did the MX518.
G9x G9x G9x best mouse ever
As an owner of both an MX518 and my CM Storm Sentinel, I don't care what people say about it, but I love the Sentinel more than I ever did the MX518.
The sentinel is rather cheap and low end tho, I have tried it, and its rubbish in my eyes. Not a big fan of the 518 nor g500 either, as they are both ugly budget mice that are only worth buying because of the low price.
Are you left or right handed?
Buy another one of the one you have.
I bought mine from here http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142740 seems like a good price

Get a new intellimouse, anything steelseries or the two logitech mice already posted. I myself have a G500, it's pretty good. Most razer products are shit shit and g9x is overpriced bs.
g5 is pretty good and you can pick them up pretty cheap
I'm in need of a new mouse as well. I've been using this HP ball mouse, a step down from my laser mouse that broke a couple years ago.
Get logitech. --Full stop ^
If you want Razer, I suggest getting a Mamba, or maybe a Deathadder.

Out of the mice I have tried, G500 > MX518 = G5 > * > Storm Sentinel
Thread is now officially over. People suggesting mice other then those two will be spammed with disagrees.
you forgot the G5
Are you left or right handed?
right handed [editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
Personal preference is where it's at really. Comfort is one of the most important things about buying a mouse. If you're not comfortable with it, you won't like it. If you have a microcenter nearby or something similar, try before you buy.
I looked up on Razer about grip styles and mine is Claw Grip. But all of the gaming mice are in their boxes and I really doubt it that they have an open-box for me to test out (for 1 hour of playing FPS games xD) [editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
If you want Razer, I suggest getting a Mamba, or maybe a Deathadder.
Mamba = 130 dollars of hell Deathadder = my friend has it and he said that it was good. = 45 dollars [editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
Buy another one of the one you have.
uh, buy it again? It doesn't even track well! 50 cm/s is really bad btw.
you forgot the G5
not available, replaced by g500
not available, replaced by g500
Some are still around in stores for a low price
Mx518 / G500 / StealSeries XAI I personally use the G500 because I like the shape and weight of it.
You best be trolling, it's a horrendously bad mouse for the price. Out of the mice I have tried, G500 > MX518 = G5 > * > Storm Sentinel
I didn't get it for MSRP, though. I got it for less than I paid for my MX518. And I'm standing by it. They're both great, but I love the software for the CM and the aesthetics of the mouse itself fit my hand perfectly.
Just got a Razer Imperator mouse + Razor Sphex mouspad, beautiful for Fps'. expensive though
I use this http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/7976590/Gigabyte-GM-M6880-Gaming-Laser-USB-Mouse-Black/Product.html?searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0&searchstring=gigabyte+mouse&urlrefer=search it's got one click dpi change between three pre-sets and it costs less than a tenner, I would have forked out for a better one but sadly I'm a student ....
Mx518 / G500 / StealSeries XAI I personally use the G500 because I like the shape of it
Looked at the G500, seems nice at the store. Checked out the XAI on the site, holy hell it basically has everything I will ever need on a mouse+driver-less! But it's pretty expensive though...
It's 400 dpi, 125Hz Pooling and it can only handle 50 cm/second before it twitches up or down and fails.
You can manually up the polling rate to 500 or 1000 Hz btw, generally helps a lot.
So, I need a new mouse. Laser is generally worse than optical when it comes to gaming except for like one or two exceptions (Deathadder and Xai being the ones I can think of right now). Laser mice can generally handle higher DPI's but the people with the best aim (top Quake or CS players) usually use DPI's of 400 or 800 because they play at low sensitivities and human error becomes amplified with higher DPI's, they know they aren't perfect. Thus I suggest you get an Intellimouse 3.0, which is known to be a very good and cheap optical mouse that also has those side buttons you want so badly. Assuming you want functionality and performance rather that aesthetics and gimmicks. Even though the Logitech MX518 costs about the same as a 3.0, I don't recommend it because a lot of people have problems with the grip and the sensor has built-in correction, which you don't want for aiming. And if you don't really care about side buttons you should consider the Razer Abyssus as well, which is also optical and known to be very good.
