Now VRFocus has been informed that VR developers are indeed working with an Xbox One VR HMD already. The developer kit is currently ‘circulating’ a group of developers working on the console. Several studios have confirmed to VRFocus that they are working with the device, while Techradar has also received similar information that suggests teams have already begun work on software for the kit. No specific information about the device itself or exactly which videogames are in development for it has been revealed just yet. Obviously this will pit Microsoft’s kit directly against the Project Morpheus HMD currently in development for the PlayStation 4, as well as Oculus VR’s own Oculus Rift PC HMD.
As expected
It's going to be hard for a console VR headset to compete with the pure content people are going to make for the occulus. Also how is the xbone going to render every game at the resolution/framerate needed? I've heard the consumer model is shooting for 1440p now, and that's just for the near future.
I'm surprised we didn't hear about this earlier. Competition between the different VR HMDs can only result in good things, right? I wonder what Microsoft'll name their device when it's close to release?
"Xbox Live Gold is required to use the Virtual Reality goggles."
Probably going to be expensive as fuck.
Not to mention this is XBox exclusive, so Oculus probably won't change much, rendering the competition pointless. Or I'm an uninformed git.
Google seriously needs to get into this. The Google Goggles

and what type of word is goggle? It sounds so weird. Idk GODDAMNIT MY FUCKING MERGE
Not really getting the pessimism here. I understand FP is very anti Microsoft, but this is actually really exciting regardless. Now all major platforms (except Wii U) will have VR support. This is going to make VR a lot better on PC I think.

Is this going to be like the Wii where one company gets the best possible offer and the rest does complete shit that no one cares about
They should add in motion sensing capability, then they could call it the Kinectoscope.

How the heck do they expect to make this work on XBone? Playing through virtual reality at 960p at 30fps will make everyone vomit their guts out in no time.
Google seriously needs to get into this. The Google Goggles
Googgles
Yeah, as a console player, I doubt I'll even bother with these. The oculus is far better for all the VR porn. That's honestly the only reason I want one.
How the heck do they expect to make this work on XBone? Remember that in VR, even low graphics can create strong immersion/presence. So there will be tons of titles that aren't Call of Duty or Halo 4 levels of eye candy, yet are more immersive because they can be rendered at 1080p/60fps VR (or higher, nobody knows what they settled on yet). Having a high resolution screen will make the screen door + pixel effect disappear even if it's rendered at just 1080p.

Reading anything at 1080p is difficult. Driving games also suffer due to poor resolution since you can't see very well what's in the far distance. All in all, you also need to increase the rendering resolution, but obviously having an higher resolution screen is still better than nothing. The frame rate is going to be a major issue, mostly because if you wanted to improve the visuals easily in consoles you could apply some cheap tricks (e.g. cap the game at 30fps) and have most console players not care while being able to deliver those visuals, but in VR the frame rate is very important so the visuals will suffer... you are right in that there are going to be games more immersive that lack that level of eye candy, but I'm afraid some players will avoid VR games because they might not be as pretty.

Just like motion controls were the gimmick of last gen, VR will be the gimmick of this gen. I wonder how long before Nintendo announces their VR peripheral.
Well that's cool I guess, but wouldn't the low FPS and resolution make the experience kinda iffy? I've yet to try any VR type things so I dunno.
In theory, they might be able to use the Kinect along with this and do something really cool.
I really hope people stop making VR headsets. There is Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear, Project Morpheus, and now this.

It's not a gimmick, it's just a new platform. 2015 will be the birth of real consumer VR.
Just like motion controls were the gimmick of last gen, VR will be the gimmick of this gen. I wonder how long before Nintendo announces their VR peripheral.
I think Nintendo said a few months back that there not sure about the viability of VR yet.
