But not my official apps? It wasn't really as awesome as I figured it would be, so I figured I might as well remove it.
If I remember correctly it'll require that you wipe your iPod before you install iOS4.

So even my official ones? Time to back it up I guess.

Wait. Is this even compatible with iPod Touch 3g?
Upgrading between major iPod updates require you to backup your iPod completely, which backs up everything but anything jailbroken. When you update to the latest major firmware, you will find you have nothing on your iPod except the basic things that come with it. You will then need to restore from the backup you made before you updated.
You will lose your jailbreak and anything jailbreak.
So if I just right click it, click backup, and then install the new firmware, I just have to right click it and click 'restore from backup' after the new shit is on there?
Just install aptbackup and backup your cydia apps and tweaks before you update.

I don't want Jailbreak still on there though, I didn't download any pay-to-use ones anyway.
But what features are disabled on iTouch 3g?
If it's an 8Gig device, Multitasking and Backgrounds, if it's a 32 / 64 GB Device, you have everything iOS4 can offer (apart from the iMovies I believe)

Hot. I have 32 GB.
Question, if I had apps installed from Installous, and I used that aptbackup thing, would it put all the apps from Installous back on my iPod as well?

Unless the device is Jailbroken after the update, no.

There's something called AppSync that you're supposed to use so that they sync with iTunes.
I wouldn't use it though but I don't use Installous at all...
On a related note, why doesn't anyone get banned for pretty much saying they use Installous?

The 8 GB isn't third gen. The third gen is only 32 GB and 64 GB.
The 8 GB is an MC model 2nd gen.

The 8GB model uses 2nd gen hardware, however it has the bootrom of a 3rd Gen. It was also released with the other 3rd gens, making it a 3rd gen irregardless.
Logic please.
Make sure you back up your SHSH blob (you can do this on Cydia) in case you change your mind and want to go back to 3.1.3. Backing this up allows you to downgrade to 3.1.3, admittedly with a small bit of difficulty.

Read my post next time. It's still considered a 2nd gen because there wasn't a hardware refresh. I said it is an MC model which means it has the newest bootrom. It's still a 2nd gen though because of the hardware.

Generations are not counted by what they "had", but when they're released.
All my music is on my ipod and none is on my computer. If I update iOS4 and it asks me to backup it will back up all of my music and legitimate apps and I can then restore them?
Generations are not counted by what they "had", but when they're released.
Tell that to the entire jailbreaking community. MC Model != 3rd gen. The generations are based on hardware refreshes. The hardware didn't change on the MC model 2nd gen and thus it is still a 2nd gen.

What a bunch of people think isn't always correct. It's a 3rd gen, with 2nd gen hardware.

So iPhone Dev Team is wrong but I should take your word for it? It's a 2nd gen because of the hardware. You said so yourself. Just because they released it along side an actual hardware refresh doesn't make it 3rd generation. Apple's website even denotes that the 32 and 64 gb models are 3rd generation but that same note isn't under the 8 gb model. That's because it's a 2nd gen.
