Evening gents, I'm here because I need somebody to compose an original soundtrack to a game my friend and I are making. The game is called "Comet", which is a space real-time strategy game that is centered around fast-paced and exciting gameplay, without having to collect resources or micro-manage units. There are three kinds of ships in-game, the Scout, Fighter, and Dreadnought. Planets produce 1 of these 3 ship types at regular intervals. The more planets you capture, the more ships you can dominate with.
I have very little programming experience, as I come from more of an arts background. I am the pixel artist and ideas guy for the game, and have been busy completely reworking all artwork from Comet's previous versions.
My friend Rayboy or rayboy_1995 (whatever he goes by on here) does all the programming in Java. He is very skilled and also a little lazy sometimes.
Neither of us are very experienced with music. I've tried the whole Fruity Loops thing, but I haven't gotten a firm grasp on it. This is why we need a musician to do some tracks for us, as the gameplay we have down lacks music completely. Anyways, we're considering selling this game (possibly on Steam), and any musician will get 1/3 of the profit. This is, of course, after the game is bug-free, scored, polished, and multiplayer-capable.
The original idea for the music style was to go with an Imperial chiptune theme, mixing Prussian and German march music with electro and chiptunes. However, I'm starting to consider more of an ambient approach, that's a little easier to listen to. It's really up to you.
To help visualize what project you'll be working on and also to prove that I'm actually working on something and not conceptualizing something that will never happen, I have some pictures and video of Comet as of right now.

Video Media!
Version 0.2.2! Art and everything is really shitty! Also features unlicensed music!

Version 0.3.4! Features slightly less bugs and the current theme music!

Anyways, we're up past version 4, which has AI for you to fight against and stuff. Currently Rayboy is working on getting Multiplayer to work, and I'm redoing all the game art, including the menu GUI, ships, planets, & effects.
We'd love to have a musician to complete the team and increase the awesomeness of our gameplay experience. We'd rather not give out copies of the game yet, but if we choose you as our music guy we'll give you the .jar to get a feel for what the game actually plays like.
If you're interested, just reply or send me a PM with a sample of your music and we'll talk about your possible involvement with the game. Another important note I should make is that we make games because it's fun, so Rayboy and I are always joking over Skype and occasionally indulging in some IL-2 Sturmovik or Call of Duty 4. It would be great if we could pull off a project to call our own, but we're going to have a good time getting to that point.
Oh, and check out our dev blog at www.bombsightgames.tumblr.com
Thanks for reading this far, and I hope to have a music guy soon!
If you need some chiptunes then I can help. I track xm-files, but can export to wav/mp3/you name it.
Here's an example (there are a few more on the channel):

Probably isn't exactly what you had in mind.
I usually make very fast and melodic tunes, but if you want I can try putting together a slower, more ambient piece.

Very impressive! If you're interested, we'd love to have you. This music isn't exactly what I had in mind for Comet, but I just played a round while listening to it and I think that this or something similar works for the game.
Alright man.
What are the parts for which you would need music, and what would the typical durations of each song be?

I say we continue this by PM or Skype. Once again, I'm glad you'll be joining us.
It'd be really cool if you could consider me too.

Not like you can't have multiple composers!

A little lazy eh? I'll remember that...

You'd better.

Can I just say that even though I've only ever been in the Gig Room a few times, I know that this is probably the best community of any Facepunch section. You guys rock, and not only are you each very talented musicians, but you're also respectful and don't whine about anything. On any other other section (especially programming), people are complete assholes to anybody who makes a thread. Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
Hey, ambient and experimental is a side thing for me. I love working with it, check out my bandcamp EP:

Let me know if you like what you hear, I can do this and a lot more.

Oh, I also program all of my own sounds from scratch and I can do some sound effects too. If you need anything like that, I'll see what I can do.
Well gents, I'm going to go with Rad McCool. If anything shakes loose I'll send one of you a PM. Thank you all for your willingness to help out, and have a good night.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
