Bronwyn Bishop has resigned as Speaker of House of Representatives.
At a press conference this afternoon, Prime Minister Tony Abbott addressed the latest issues surrounding Speaker Bronwyn Bishop.
This comes after weeks of standing by the embattled veteran MP, who has been under fire for abusing parliamentary entitlements, including hiring a $5000 helicopter ride for a Liberal fundraiser from Melbourne to Geelong.
Labor has been demanding her dismissal following the string of revelations but the prime minister as late as Friday said he would be standing by the "deeply remorseful" and "very, very chastened" Speaker.

Bronwyn Bishop tendered her resignation as Speaker of the House to governor general Peter Cosgrove, following weeks of expenses scandals that had threatened to derail the government.
The prime minister, Tony Abbott, made the announcement on Sunday afternoon.
“Regrettably, not withstanding reforms [enacted by the government]... there are still too many situations in which members of parliament can make claims that are inside entitlements but outside of public expectations,” he told reporters.
He announced a whole-scale review of the entitlements system - to be led by former head of the Department of Finance, David Tune - which will aim to give “the public confidence”.
Bishop had been under pressure since July, when it emerged that she used more than $5000 of public money to charter a helicopter from Melbourne to Geelong to attend a Liberal party fundraiser.
Ding dong the witch is dead! No not really, I'm glad that a speaker who did not uphold parliamentary standards, especially on the specific issue of impartiality, both outside & inside of parliament has finally decided to resign. Hopefully we can finally get a speaker that actually can get some sort of parliamentary reform out of federal parliament.
Wow, she actually did it.

I'd say she probably was coerced by Abbott, as if she didn't it would have severely reduced the chances of a Coalition government for a second term. But then again, it's at a point where even that won't do much to calm voters dismay of the government's actions since the previous election.
I hope any future speakers come forth about expenses... Slipper, and now Bishop.

Abbott is severally reducing his chances for a second term on his own.
