• Questions about Saphire HD 5870

So my old Saphire HD 4870 X2 died. It died when after I played Fallout 3. I had warranty so I sent it to the company that sold it to me. They have stopped selling HD 4870 X2's so I got a HD 5870. So I got some questions about this new HD 5870. Are there any known issues with the HD 5870 that I should be aware of? Does it have heat problems like the HD 4870 X2? Curently, the highest temperature under load was 63 (playing GTA IV on high - very high) and idle is 40 - 45. I haven't touched anything in CCC (I have not changed fan settings, clocks and so on). Sorry if its the wrong forum.

You just wanted to post this story didnt you?
There is nothing wrong with it, temps are fine and if everything looks ok onscreen there there isn't a problem.
Why would there be something wrong with it? You just wanted to post this story didnt you?
Thats not true. I wanted to know if there where any problems because my old HD 4870 X2 had several problems like temps and so on.

I'm pretty sure you can't blame your graphics card for that, you're the one who is supposed keep everything cool and take action when needed. But I do not believe 5870 has any problems stay cool

Link: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/255100-15-problems-radeon-4870x2

The Radeon 4870 X2 video card has a special version of internal CrossFireX technology. Essentially, the second core in the video card activates by itself as needed (i.e. during high-end gaming or video graphics design, etc.) and there are no user adjustments that can be done to activate or deactivate it. Furthermore, since each core on the video card has its own dedicated 1 GB of RAM, the CCC will only show the memory assigned to the one active core – thus you will see only 1 GB of RAM as available video memory whenever you are in desktop environment or doing anything that does not require the utilization of the 2nd core. Once the video card is under load that would require the 2nd core to activate – each core would then have its own 1 GB of memory to work with.
Should have read the entire thread.
I have a 5850, the temps are great and lower then your 4870, I would say its a very good swap.
Your temps are fantastic. My 5770 idles at like 55-60 and under load hits 80 sometimes.
My 5870 can hit 85 if I run Furmark, but while just playing games it goes up to maybe 70. [editline]11:03AM[/editline] Right now it idles at 40.
